What's my recourse?

I've accepted the fact that people buy up land, chop it up, put dumb spinning billboards on it, etc....but when someone did that right next to me, and made it so the spinning billboard went over my deck, well that bothers me. I believe this person did it on purpose so I buy the piece of land, but I can't or I will go over my tier.

I sent an IM but I haven't heard back.

Do I have any recourse? Theorectically anyone can build something that goes over another person's land, yet it's not considered as such. That isn't right. I can play the dumb game right back, but I shouldn't have to. Plus, I don't want to ruin the view for my neighbors.

If a neighbor's object extends into your parcel you may Abuse Report them.

If a neighbor's object is, in one's own opinion, simply unattractive, and does not extend into your parcel, there's nothing you can do. People may do what they wish with their own parcels (unless, in the case of Convenant land, it violates the covenant outlined by the sim owner).

I posted the pic, and it does extend into my property. I've been very careful not to go over anyone else's land.

I will look to see how to file an Abuse Report. Thanks

Be patient. I filed one in one in September and the primhouse is still there. I always build away from the property line now because of this, at least 4meters.

Good Luck, I know its frustrating.

Horrific.

About the only avenue you have, I think, is the abuse report channel, and it should be taken care of.

You shouldn't have to tolerate a 4 month wait to get someone else's prim sign out of your house. If it's been that long, time for another report!

I know that one .

Trying to talk or reason with him has absolutely no effect other than to entice him to make the existing situation far worse just for kicks.

I wouldn't even really AR anymore, but just file a support ticket instead. They do come out for a look if you use a support ticket, and unlike an AR you can always just reopen it if it wasn't handled the way you want.

may i ask why this is even allowed? cant those who are the object of this extremely intrusive and eyesore causing individual do something? isnt LL even looking into stopping this sort of coersion?

The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

Just rez a giant sign of your own with "Free Transexual Furry Love Toys", facing his own parcel. Put your build in the sky at 500m or so...and relax.

From the picture it looks as if enough of it is on your land to register as a prim on your land. If that is true then you should be able to return it from about land/objects

Another thing that you might try. Right click it to get the pie menu and click more on the menu and see if return is grayed out. If it isn't, then you should be able to return it that way.

OMG!!! the area next to me doesn't look quite as bad as the photo above, but yes, it's the same. The one piece of land next to me is 16 sq. m, and for sale at $L 296. No one's going to buy it.

Sad part is, it was a super lovely piece of land, along a stretch of protected Linden land. I had even contemplated buying it as the price was really good, but I've pretty much reached my limit.

I posted my AR and will wait a few days.

Honestly, I don't have a problem with the sign (okay, I do, it's stupid) but I just don't want it on my deck.

in my sim, all of my neighbors have gone in together, unwittingly, and blocked the ad farm from all sides. LOLOL even the next sim over has a HUGE wall! :p

Is that a typo, or is the price really only L$296? As adcuts go, that's not a bad price at all -- only $1 US! No, it's not the cheapest land on the market, but L$18.5/sq.m. is not an unreasonable price. You should totally buy it and join it to your land, if it won't bump up your tier.

A lot of those stupid 16m plots are priced at several thousand or tens of thousands. Actually, there's quite a few at ludicrous prices like $100,000 real money, but I'm pretty sure they don't actually expect anyone to buy those.

If you could make yourself an alt you can make a group and deed the land to your group, freeing yourself up for another 51 sq m, so you could then annex that land without extending your tier (assuming you on 512).

I confess, I bought out one of those stupidly expensive ad towers, in a crossover deal with a neighbour; she added about L$7,000 to the purchase price of a chunk of my land just so we could both benefit from nuking the damn tower.

Unfortunately my next target (tiny scrap of land decorated with a picture of someone's dog, zero traffic for the entire of 2007) looks like it's been bought on someone's corporate account and isn't going to be ever touched again, much less responded to. There really should be some kind of escrow setup or appeal board process for this crap.

You amy also try submitting a Support Ticket. I'mnot sure if ARs go through that system (I've only used it for BRs) but they do seem to get taken care of faster.

((As long as it has nothing to do with Billing which doesn't seem to answer to ANY form of communication what so ever.))

That looks like a nice place to put an oversized fireplace *wink, wink*.

Set the fireplace so that the center of it is still in your land...sign/ what sign? :-)

4 months? I'd have been furious ... but we had 4 months until a Linden was in Sim for another reason and we grabbed him at Doldari (ah I miss my old land ... well a bit) and showed him and he was appalled at the incursion onto our properties.

Go and use the live chat support thingy ... you might have to scheme a bit to get it, they might be irritable with you ... but it's not much work. Miss the days when you could post to the Land Management forum so Guy and the crew could take a looksee for you.

<nostalgia> SL really REALLY has changed a LOT ... :/

Ed, I think you'll find that that alt would have to be a premium account in order to buy land and therefore deed it. Tier upgrade might just be a little cheaper :)

Yep, that's probably why they did it. I had a herd of them blocking my view, so i bought most of that land as well to get rid of them. Most of it in 16 square meter parcels. Two or three of those tiny parcels were for sale at the ridiculous price of L$ 5999, so I didn't but those and put a nice big tree right next to them and now they're hidden in the leaves.

The Clocktower Network
07-02-2007 06:07
For those of interested, one of the things the Arbor Project does is the Clocktower Network.

To quote:

"The Clocktower network is a distributed blacklist system for use in the virtual world of Second Life. It allows a central repository of banned avatars to be automatically distributed to any parcel in the world that has our network client (probe) installed on it."

If you're interested, you can go to the distribution site at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Pero/162/207/108 and click the sign on the wall there to receive the Clocktower Project kit. Placing a probe on every parcel of land you own is easy, and populates your ban list with the names of known ad-farm purveyors.

A particularly gratifying technique is to buy up the plots around an overpriced ad plot and put the probes in place, making it very challenging for the jerk to get to their little overpriced plot.

The more probes that get placed, the more difficult for the ad-farm idiots to get around in-world.

You don't have to be a member of the Arbor Project to use the Clocktower stuff, but joining is a good thing, and very painless.
