We should hit six million residents by the end of the week.

In order to hit six million residents, you need a fast, durable truck, preferably with a snowplow blade. It should have auxiliary tanks for long distance driving and a high ground clearance so you can chase the runners up stairways and... Oh! You meant that SL's population will total six million!. Never mind. :D

Residents would imply spending at least some time in SL. The number logged in over the past 60 days is only 1,713,589.

In the past 2 weeks, it's only been 649,753.
On march 31st, the 2 week figure was 551,548
On march 1st, it was 661,961

The total number of accounts may be rising, but I'd say retention rate is pretty low.
Considering how hard it is to have your account deleted, the resident total is unreliable as a measure of anything but the amount of records LL are keeping in their database.

Other Data Not Released In Months
05-01-2007 17:05
It is also strange that they have not updated other important economical information and indicators in months. They may be growing in number of avatars, but the active number of players is growing far slower than new AV accounts.

-> Why hasn't the "Economic Statistics: Graphs" been updated since Nov 2006?
-> Maybe because it would show that the number of active accounts is not growing in the manner that they would like to make it seem?

->Why don't the lindens release more specific and valuable information about activity and economic statistics?
-> Maybe because without the smoke and mirrors, things are growing but not booming like they like people to think.

Just a thought...

I wouldnt be surprized if the number of active players is under 300,000

But my guess is somewhere between 300,000 and 600,000

totally unscientific wild guess.

Maybe by the end of the year. 10 million would be a 66% increase and I don't see that happening in 3 months.

I don't know...if I recall, we hit 1 mil sometime around last October (I think?) and 2 mil in January (mid-to-late Jan)...here we are 3-4 months later, and we're seeing 6 million...if the rate of new account sign-ups continue to increase, 10 million may come sooner than we think...

I joined SL on Dec 24 2006 - number of residents was 2.2million and number online was around 18,000.

4 months later - 6 million and 35,000 (average online).

So there are 3.8 million new LandBots/Camping Zombies !!

This is interesting.

I wonder if you had Residents total and average Online numbers for all of SL history if you could estimate 1) The effects of camping Zombies and 2) Total number of actual active accounts.

Some statistical genius might be able to. lol.

The first Camping chairs were in Lost Dog around June of 2005.

What I would like to know, if there are any geek statisticians out there - when did the first Deck Chair appear? ;)

This forum isn't for general discussion; there are many Resident Sites where this discussion is appropriate — Resident Answers is for Resident-to-Resident help. :) I'll close this thread...

"We should hit 6 mil by weeks end".

And?

The game still is all broken up as nothing is ever fixed. The majority of these accounts are freebies as many players have scaled back to free accounts to avoid paying a game with as many bugs as this one.

It could have tens times that amount in population and they still would be mostly all free accounts for the most part and the game would still be in the same condition as it has been for the longest of times.

It's a shame they stopped updating the graphs.
120 free accounts for every premium looks a little absurd.
