Newbie question about Land / $ (did I miss the boat?)

Hi everyone,

I just joined SL, and purchased a premium account. I finally figured enough things out to have my sights set on land now.

But ...

From what I can tell so far, it seems like to actually buy a 512 plot is very expensive (i.e. an extra $30 ,which I call expensive for a tiny piece "virtual property";), or you can get it for cheaper, except you have to live in a cookiecutter little shed with tons of land restrictions.

Am I missing something, or did I miss the boat on land, and am forced to work with the economy of people trying to make a living off this game by cornering the market?

I started recruiting my friends and family into this game, so I wanted to know if I just overlooked something, or if it really is a substantial roadblock.

Thanks in advance for any info you can give me!

so let's see here...
You just joined SecondLife and forked over the cash for a premium account before checking the price of land? Now you are joining the ranks of people complaining about the price of a parcel and people trying to make a living in SL?

Welcome to SecondLife, you'll fit in just fine Kyle. The only roadblocks you will run into are the one you create yourself :) no pun intended

LL is trying to bring land prices down. As we speak, there are over 70 new sims being auctioned off. This is the best time to buy land in the last few months, with the exception of three days two months ago when there was a big drop.

You can get a nice 512 meter plot for around $18 US. So no, you didn't miss the boat. Look around and make sure you love your area before you buy, though.

I see a 512 plot on the mainland for 4950 lindens, which my slexchange currency converter says is about 17 US dollars.

If we're not insulting the people who come to this page seeking help, we are not doing our job. :p

Haha well your info was helpful. I've also been reading up on the forums for a whlie trying to figure things out. At first I just joined to use it as an interesting chat system, brought a couple friends along, and didn't mind paying 9 bucks for some extra money to help me poke around and figure out if I want to switch over to this "game" on a more dedicated basis.

Also, I've played enough online games to expect something like that on the forum. There's always hyper-sensitive guys out there.

Thanks again :)

I must say something nasty... I must say something nasty...

NAY... my mood is too good for that :P

Welcome to SL, Xex ... and just keep an eye on land sales. I saw indeed that prices tend to go down.

Morwen.
