Strange problems with avie appearence

Hello,

i have some problems with my avatar: The first thing is an odd crease or fold that looks like my ribcage is sticking out - wich is totally impossible since my avatar is rather heavywheight. The other and more important problem concernes clothes: Whenever I wear jackets that consist of parts on the jacket and skirt layer, something seems to be wrong with it: It looks like the skirt part stands out and there is a small gap between the actual clothing and the surface of my avie. Also, the skirt top part seems to be higher than Jacket bottom part. So all in all, that looks quite odd, especially since on some clothes the textures dont match up because of that. As much as i have fiddled with dials, the problems persists.

Any help would be greatly apprechiated.

Any chance you could post a picture or four so we can see exactly what you mean?

turn your avatar into the sun.

Lighting makes avatars look hideous at some angles.

Edit - that works for a lot of things , rereading your post - Id also like to see pictures.

You can adjust the skirt and jacket lengths in the appearance settings. Right click on yourself and go into appearance. Then click on the jacket button or skirt button and try adjusting them. It depends if you have modify permissions for the clothes and it also depends on how the clothes were originally made. If the clothes designer left gaps in the texture there may not be much that you can do.

Pictures... right. I should have thought about that :-)

Here you go, several different outfits. You can see the Jacket problem best with the leather jacket from !Simone:

P.S.:

Bree: as i said, i fiddled with the dials already. - including those for clothes :-)

Ok..yeah...that is wiggy, to say the least. It's as if the skirt mesh simply isn't aligning properly with the rest of your avatar. Wouldn't surprise me in the least bit if this was a glitch beyond your control. Inside of your control however I can't think of anything you could do to fix that outside of what you've already done. If worse comes to worse, try to contact the creators and see if they will replace the articles. Of course, for it to effect the same part of multiple outfits like that, I would guess there's a slight mesh glitch occuring.

OK, I'm not at all familiar with men's clothing, but to me, it looks like the bottom of the jacket is a prim, considering that it actually does stand away from your body. It's easy to tell if part of the jacket is a prim, as it will appear as a box in your inventory instead of one of the usual clothing types (shirt, skirt, socks, etc.).

Have you tried right-clicking the bottom of the jacket to see if you can bring up the edit menu? If so, you will be able to adjust position, rotation, etc., to get your clothing to match up better.

It's the same thing we have to do all the time on SL for prim skirts, etc.

EDIT:

By the way, if you *can* edit the prim piece, copy it first, if the item is copyable. This will give you an original to go back to, in case you make any mistakes.

I already thought about contacting the creators but the fact is that it happens with ALL of my skirt/jacket combo jackets, no matter who the creator is. So i am guessing it is not a problem with the clothes but as you mentioned, some "technical" issue on my side. I also tried other shapes, yes. I even used the "randomise" option in the Appearence menu but no joy - the problem was still there. I also tried the clothes on without wearing the skin - same result.
Oh and none of the clothes are prims.

I guess i need a doctor !

There is ALWAYS a certain degree of mis-match at the waistband of a skirt. They never fit as well as we would like, and almost always stand out a bit from the body. I fear your 'portly preference' is making it even more noticable.

You may try some different clothes designers. Some of them seem to do better than others in this regard. But with any outfit that is a shirt/inddershirt or jacket above, and which tries to mesh with a skirt to get a longer tail on the jacket, you WILL get a mismatch at the waist.

Sorry hon. Grin and bear it, and stop looking so closely at your own waistline!

If that's the same Simone jacket that I have, the part that juts out is supposed to be on the skirt layer and not a prim.

Something about the first look viewer is also messing up my Furry Head's eye blink texture and script. It never did this before and I've used this script for over a year or so. Now my whole face turns into a solid color blanking out my whole face. I had to reset the script and disable it to show my face but now i cant blink anymore.

As i said before - it is NOT a prim attachment, it is on the skirt layer.

i'm wondering if the strange fold/crease in my avatar has anything to do with it. I finally managed to take a pic that's showing it - even though it is still kinda hard to make out:

http://img62.imageshack.us/my.php?image=snapshot004mm9.jpg

In here you can see how the prim tie falls down and INTO the fold so to speak. The fold/crease is there no matter what clothes i wear or if i go naked. And again, no matter how much i manipulate all the sliders, it wont go away.

Any theories or helpful input is again very much apprechiated.

I've had the same issue with the skirt layer on some jackets I made. The skirt is sort of attached to the hips but it doesn't contort like the body. Even when the AV is standing straight and neutral, there's a gap, probably to average out the extremes of hip twisting movements.

A good clothing designer can make the top of the skirt fade in from transparent, making the transition much less noticeable. But to make the current clothes appear to fit better, you might try adding some "shirt fluff" by making whatever is on the shirt layer fit looser. Doing that looks pretty weird when wearing shortsleeve shirts under a jacket, though.

Have you tried looking at the mysterious crease with the preference set to maximum avatar detail? It may be a weird rounding type error. Baffling in any case. Good luck!

All my viewers settings are at maximum, yes. I also tried to fluff up the shirt that i was wearing and that somewhat helped the problem but it was no solution. You could still see that there was something wrong (besides, i looked odd with the loose shirt :-) )
