hello everybody!
please forgive my elementary question...but I was born just a month ago! well I'm holding now 2960sqm of land, and I want to purchase other 2000 circa, but my holding limit is 4,608; how can I increase this limit, is there any additional fee? I haven't found any explaination on SL site, could you give me a link? ... another question, I hold my 2960 and I pay 25$ montly fee, how is this possible?I am suppesed to pay 16$... how do I subtract my basic 512sqm, can I divide it in smaller lots and share it with a group since I own a business? thank you all

Is this what you are talking about? Allowed holdings: 1,024 square meters Current holdings: 512 square meters Available for purchase: 46 square meters Peak square meter usage: 978 square meters Total monthly cost: US$5.00 Next bill date: Wednesday, March 7, 2007 If it is then I'm confused too. This is my land.......I own only 512 meters. And it looks like I'm only allowed to own 1024 meters. But then only 46 are available for purchase. And I've never had more than 512 meters so what is that peak square meter usage of 978 all about? And a side question...........when did I get into having to pay $5 USD for my measley ole 512 meters? Did they sneak a tier in there sometime recently?

You are charged for your "peak usage" in a month - in other words, your tier is for the MOST land you have held that month. You had more earlier (can see that in the peak usage). Next month you should have no tier if you don't buy more land. "Allowed Holdings" doesn't mean you can't buy more land than that, it just means the most you can have without paying higher tier costs. Your max for this month, for which you will be charged $5, is 1024sqm. If you buy enough land so that you hold more than 1024, your tier costs will rise. You can buy as much land as your spending limits allow, which is a whole nother area, and a lot more than the cost of another 512sqm. That is, if _I_ understand the land stuff correctly.

Yes, there is. When you try to buy the land, you will be asked if you want to increase your monthly fee and told how much it will be - you can also see in advance, at the link that's already been posted. (The $16 a month fee would apply if you held 2048sqm or less - 2560sqm total including your free 512.) The good news is that you can buy up to 1648sqm more without paying any extra monthly fee.

Well...........I don't own more than 512 meters. And I've never owned more than 512 meters since entering the game as premium. However in December I mistakenly deeded my land to my group and got scared about an officer of my group possibly selling the land out from under me so I asked a trusted friend to buy it from me and I bought it back immediately to get out of the deeded land situation. I saw that 5 dollar fee last month and figured that the selling and buying back had caused that. Now I see it again this month. But I assure you I do not own and never have owned more than 512 meters...since becoming premium one year ago. The 5 dollar "tier" fee is not a financial burden at all......but if I'm being billed that fee mistakenly then I guess I should contact support (oh boy.........that is going to be fun LOL). And how many others are having a fee charged when they shouldn't? But thank you for your insight..........it's pretty much what I thought too but wasn't (and still not) sure.

Peggy, check and make sure you aren't donating any tier to your group. You don't need to be owning land to be paying for tier - it sounds like you donated tier and that is continuing as you haven't stopped it.

Sounds to me like you still have tier donated to the group (Tier not actual land). Use Edit->Groups->info->land tab and check to see that the "Your Contribution" box is 0. You can own your own land and have tier donated to a group at the same time. I think when you deeded land to the group then bought it back that SL thinks you OWN 512 land and DONATED 512 tier, instead of removing the donated part. This is why allowed holdings can be more then actual holdings (current + available). For example: Allowed holdings: 4,096 square meters Current holdings: 1,024 square meters Available for purchase: 1,024 square meters Current + Available only = 2,048 that is because in the above scenario 2,048 tier was donated to a group. Current and Available are what you physically have now and have left to buy with. Allowed is the total tier you have to use which is actual land holdings PLUS tier donated to groups.

You might also wanna revisit your account settings and make sure you tier back down to the zero cost (512m) tier. You may still be at the 1024 tier. Not quite true. The way it works is that your "selected tier" represent the maximum you're prepared to pay (and thus the maximum amount of land you can hold). When you buy land above your maximum, your maximum raises. When you sell it, your maximum doesn't lower, but you still only get charged for the amount of land you actually own. For example: you start with a 512, paying only Premium. You buy 1024sqm of land, and SL warns you that you are tiering up; you accept and are put into the 1024 tier for an extra US$8 a month. Then you sell your 1024sqm. You are technically still in the 1024 tier, but you will not get charged the US$8 any more, because you did not actually use the tier. However, if you buy 1024sqm again, you will not be warned that you are tiering up; you'll just get the land and will go back to being charged US$8. However, you have to beware that this does not apply to group land. Any contribution that you have put into a group stays in the group, and always counts as "used" tier, even if the group isn't actually using it for any land.

I was in the $25 tier, and sold enough land to actually put me in the lower tier. 2 months later(ya I know, I wasnt paying attention), I noticed I was still being charged for the $25 tier. From MY experience you have to go in and downgrade your tier or they keep charging you the higher tier!!

btw, if you need to remove donated tier from a group, it is a good idea to make arrangements with that group beforehand. If I understand it correctly, if a group finds itself unexpectedly owning more land than donated tier (such as a member withdrawing their tier), SL may automatically cause some group-held land to be abandoned. If you let them know your intentions, they can make arrangements to sell land if they need to.
