I've been searching for several days and can't find any "First Land" available for sale in the search tool. I've never had land before. Should I want to buy some from this selection of First Land, or is this land usually not worth waiting for and should I just go ahead and buy what I want. Just a newbie with newbie questions

First Land is worth waiting for. At odd hours, LL makes a small number of First Land parcels available, and these can sell out within a few minutes. It takes an investment in time to find First Land--leave SL running in the background as you work on other things, and every 5-10 minutes search for First Land, >=512 m2, <=L$510. Eventually you'll see some--it could take days. Don't spend too much time choosing the perfect parcel, but if you happen to see a plot adjacent to protected Linden-owned land (e.g. a land or water right-of-way) or at the waterline (or even in the water) it'll probably be worth a little more.

Thanks for the tip. Until I buy some land, is it worth renting a house? I also want to start developing some items. I could do that in my house, but there are many free sandboxes available too. Is it better to just make them there starting out and then rent some space in a mall to sell them? Thanks for all the help!

I rented for a few weeks before coming across my parcel of First Land. I am still renting the place because it is much larger than my 512 First land parcel and MUCH more serene - and waterfront to boot!! It took me a week and a half to track down an available parcel of First Land once I started looking. When I did a search and found one available, I left someone mid-chat and TP'd immediately over. There were already 3 other people walking around on the parcel (trying to figure out how to buy...?), but I was first to purchase. There are 512 parcels all around me selling for 9000-11000$L, so yes it is MOST definitely worth it to wait. As far as building - if you put a house on your first land, and furniture, you are already using some of your available 117 prims for a 512 parcel. Seems like oyu are much better off doing most of your building in a sandbox (or rented land).
