Bought a tattoo, paid but ...

it doesn't show up in my inventory.

Hi all! After buying some clothes and shoes I decided it was time for some body art. So I bought a real nice tattoo. It was designed for the lower back and it looked great.

So, I clicked the "window", paid the ammount that was asked and confirmed the ammount.

So far so good. Ammount was taken from my L$'s so the transfer was complete.

To my surprise the tattoo hasn't showed up in my invertory anywhere. Or on my body for that matter.
Was I robbed? Or is there another problem? I really don't know.
I don't want to name the creator I bought the tattoo from (bought in in a shop, not directly from an avatar or other person!) because this happening might very well not be caused by her/him.

Any suggestions?

The old cliche, clear cache, restart client. This fixes a number of issues, it's useless for a number of other issues. There have been reports of successful recovery of inventory items by clearing cache however.

If that doesn't work, and you're convinced that the item is missing, IM the creator and explain what happened. Most folks will be understanding of such circumstances and deliver a replacement to you.

Actually look in your textures folder, and sort it by date.

I did a check on this over the weekend for customers of TRU that this bug was bothering. What I found was that the current bugs are also making the "recent" tab unreliable. But the items I purchased as a test did show up, loose, in my textures folder.

So, open inventory, open the textures folder (since a Tattoo is a texture), and sort the list by date. The tattoo you just bought should pop to the top of the list in the Textures folder.

Hm, I've never seen a tattoo that was a texture. All the inks I own are made as articles of clothing. If the tat doesn't show up, IM the maker or store owner. Most reputable owners will help you out when this happens, at least in my experience.

In that case, the Clothing folder is where the tattoo would be. Again, loose and likely at or near the top of the list if sorted by date.

If you had to 'pay', not 'buy, you also get another pop up asking you to accept the item. Check your lost and found folder as well.

I you can't find it, IM the creator and ask if they will send another. Most creators will knowing lag etc can cause items to not be received.

Verify that the transaction shows up on your records https://secure-web12.secondlife.com/account/transactions.php

Those records will also tell you the name of the item that you bought. Use the inventory search function for that name, to verify if you have it somewhere. If you don't, then IM the seller and explain that you did not recieve it.

Pixel Dolls used to sell tattoos that are textures, a few months ago. They go in as part of a replacement for your skin.

I'll have to check out pixel dolls, I'd love to have tats that don't take up a clothing layer. Thanks for the tip!

For the tattoo to not take up a clothing layer, you would have to be able to have it added to your skin. Usually, that means that you would give the tattoo texture to your skin designer and have them add it to your skin. If you have the TGA files for your skin (few people do), you can add the tattoo yourself by combining the two graphics in your favorite editor, uploading the result as a texture, and making a new skin from it.

The more common way to use a tattoo that comes as a texture is to to turn it into a clothing item yourself. You create a new clothing item of the appropriate type, and then change the texture of the new clothing item to your tattoo. The advantage is that you can make multiple items of clothing for the different clothing layers, giving you a bit more flexibility in wearing the ink. Rather than sell textures, some tattoo makers supply multiple clothing layers in the box.

Instant Message the creator of the tattoo, it's probably just a mess up with the vending machine. Last week I paid for an item of clothing and I never received it. I contacted the creator and she confirmed that it was a vendor problem, then she dropped the item onto my profile. I think some vending machines might have had problems with the last update.
As far as the texture tats go, I've purchased them before. You receive the texture then you have to make an item of clothing with the appearance tool and place the texture on it.

First of all THANK you all for your replies! It's good to know so many people will help you if you have problems. :o)

Second: I did contact the owner/seller and he/she resend me the item. No problems at all.
Great customer service IMHO and very friendly towards me. :o)
