Selfduplicating notecard

Hi, out there.

Need help urgently.

I touched a picture to recieve a notecard. Since this time the notecard is duplicating itself, spamming my inventory.
And what is even more a drag: it is spamming my screen, popping up again and again and again....
Cant delete it this fast.
SL is unplayable under this condition.
Even teleporting or logging out will bring no release.

Posted to the Lindens already.

But maybe someone else has a good idea...?

Thanks in advance.

hi, probably you clicked on a poorly coded notecard giver. The first thing to do is to Mute the resident who is owning the picture you touched (most likely owning the notecards too but not necessarily). Then get rid of all these notecards in your inv.

Finally, send a kind IM (the owner might not be aware of it or the giver script has gone fubar) stating the problem and that you muted him (important, that way he won't wonder why you don't answer his own IMs, because you actually won't receive them at all).

Muting someone will automatically discard any inventory gift from the person who gives you objects.

Good luck

You can also Mute the notecard giver object, which will auto decline each attempt to give you the card.

I find this very handy when I go shopping at stores that force some spammy notecard, Landmark, or freebie item on me un-requested.

If you do that you actually Mute the owner without knowing it... Which means if you Buy anything from one of his vendor you will automatically decline the items, but lose your money anyway. IM fest ahead :)

Nope... I've done this plenty of times, including with the owner standing right there.

A good example are those annoying cigarettes that new players like so much. They happen to "speak" on a channel I monitor. So every few seconds I get several lines of the cigarette object issuing it's commands to another object which generates the particle smoke. I mute the cigarette object and problem solved... and I still continue my conversation with the player using the object. The player remains un-muted.

Thanks so far for your fast reply.

I'm quite a newbie in SL so I would be glad, if you could give me a kind of step-by-step-instruction.

I tried out what I seemed to understand but could not archieve a result so far.

Anybody who takes me by the hand?

Ok I was not completely sure... though I saw several malls warning the customers that Muting the anti-copybot "!quit" spams would also Mute their owner who happened to be the owner of all the vendors there, hence would screw up any upcoming purchase. Maybe it has changed, or it was simply not true.

Not in-world at the moment but from memory here is how you can do that :
- find the notecard giver (the picture)
- right-click on it, then Mute (or More > Mute, dunno)

if you can't do that, go to your history (CTRL H or History button on the left of your chat bar), you will find a Muted Residents list on top, play with it it's easy.

The mute list in chat... you need to be fast... hit it as soon as you get the spam. The object will be shown then. But if anyone speaks, etc, then it will be bumped off the list. (i'm not in world either) Marine's instructions will get you to this list, so far as i can recall.

You can also access your mute list from a drop down from the toolbar...View, i think (don't quote me on that) and about mid ways down or so is the mute list menu option. This is where you can manually type in the name of an object. If you mute the object this way, you need to have the exact name of the object. Punctuation and capitalization count (if applicable) as well as any special characters. Unfortunately, this is the one thing you can't simply cut and paste from chat history (for some reason "mute object" won't accept a paste.

addendum:

Marine,
I'll double check later tonight, muting an object in a store. In case it's something brand new, since i haven't muted any objects in 2 updates now, and i stopped shopping at any place that use those laggy anti-copybot wastes of sim resources (copybot users stopped using the !quit command the same day the first device came out, and the use of all those sensor scripts lags the sim so much that... well, there are other stores that sell similar things, that are less laggy, at whom i'll be happy to spend my money... those devices were the #1 thing i would mute in a store, and I had no problems buying and recieiving items then)

Once again:

Thanks to all who tried to help me.
Finally I got rid of the notecard-attack.

Hell of teleporting till I found back to the place it came from.
Then muted the dispenser and, alas, problem solved.
