Hey ! I Can't understand why !

I'm still with my OLD PC.And I got a new one also. But the old one is su much better to SL.Someone can tell me why ?

Check the comparison..

OLD PC:

P4 processor, 2.66 Ghz, HT, 512Kb L2 Cache
1 GB Ram PC 3200 Single Channel
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro AGP (8 pixels pipeline) 128 Mb
CRT Sony Monitor 17" at 1024x768 - 75 Mhz

New PC:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6320, 1.66 Ghz, 4mb L2 Cache
2 Gb Ram PC 5400 Dual Channel
Nvidia 7600 GTS PCI-X (12 pixels pipeline) 256 Mb
Samsung LCD TV 26" at 1368xsomething - Wild Screen

Well, the result in the new PC is

Lag, Lag, Lag, Lag...
I start to walk..and I cant' stop and go to a banned parcel and sometimes..I got a logoff
I feel that the other PC load objects so much fgaster maybe because it's have the sims that I aways on i some cache. So, when I go to a sim and back, the sim is totally naked and I see all objects loading again. And in several occasions, some objects just don't load.A pool when I back..the water not loads :(

So, guys...anny suggestions ?

It could be your vid card. The ATI 9800 Pro was a widely acclaimed excellent card. The Nvdia 7600 is just sorta OK .

Having used both a 7600 and 9800Pro on machines, that isn't the issue. I'm getting 15+ FPS better on the nVidia.

Try clearing your cache and updating your video drivers, like was said earlier.

Also, try setting the affinity of Secondlife.exe to use only one cpu core.

Trevor, I'm running a dual core... how do I set the affinity to run for one core, like you suggested? Just curious.

Rafaella, I'm running nearly the exact same machine that you are, same video card and everything, so it's not your machine, it's the settings. What's your draw distance? Do you have streaming video and music enabled? Also, I actually LOWERED my cache to 512 and that seems to speed it up a little.

Give this a shot, its supposed to force SL to run on a single core:

Hey, maybe there is something wrong with your network card on the new machine? Or maybe you have it plugged in to a different adsl modem or router, etc... that has a firewall? Or maybe your OS on the new machine has firewall turned on? Or something other program running that is sucking up your CPU?

The only solution

Ask an actual competent company to make an actual viewer (not a random pill of code that somehow seem to work only in 5 mins burst).

LL did it again, new features added with 'Free' bugs.. as ususal. LL is living in a bubble and totally ignores the need of it PAYING customers.

There's a memory leak guys and at work I've had issues with dual core processors and AMD X2's having issues with slow performance due to an issue with a Microsoft update.

I don't mean slow performance with SL, I mean generally.

Why not post the "idea" configuration
05-24-2007 16:54
LL thing positive LL should be doing is posting the "perfect" computer to play SL. with a very detailed list of all compoments and OS used (all the programs running, all the hardware brand and model number).

Couple of possibilities, one is ATI vs. NVidia for the OpenGL drivers. But also the type of lag, where your avatar "rubber-bands", is a result of high network latency. Check to see what network services are running on your system, for example sidebar gadgets on Vista.

Finally turn all your user settings down, and run at a lower resolution, do a true "apples-to-apples" comparison.

Nice ! Several perhaps to try !!!

Good !

Let's try one by one...Let's use a single processor...

OMG I wanna kill me if SL run so much better in a single core !

This will be my first try ;)

Oryx--
I know of two ways to limit SecondLife to a single CPU for Dual CPU or Dual Core PC's running a Windows operating systems:

1) For Windows XP or higher
- Open Task Manager
- Locate SecondLife.exe (Processes tab)
- Right-click on SecondLife.exe, choose Set Affinity
- Set it to only of the two CPU's listed

2) For Windows 2000 or lower
- Download the imagecfg.exe utility from Robpol68 website and follow the instructions provided
