Slow response time on movement horrible thinking of leaving

So so sad to see.

You know, I've always been one of the most positive people about Second Life, when others were bitching and moaning in blog comments, I'd always reply back saying I never had anything like those problems, second life's great for me.

And for the most part it has, never had single inventory loss, my frame rate is now faster than ever.

But since the viewer changed to 1.15 and they did some heavy backend stuff to accomodate more than 40K users, movement through the SL world is horrible.

The ping time seems to have gotten much longer, now when I press an arrow to move it takes a while before my avatar actually moves.

This is really horrible when walking over uneven or slopey land, as the feet keep sinking in for a sec, then the graphics jolt my av back to the correct position.

Second life just feels soo unresponsive like this, creating a feeling of detachment to the world.

Nothings changed in my setup, or my connection, and its like this pretty much all the time, even if the current online users is low.

It's such a shame cause ive been a huge supporter of sl, but I'm just not enjoying the experience anymore like this. I used to love exploring new sims, not anymore, not with such jerky unresponsive movement all the time.

The feeling of delay on everything reminds me that sl isn't real, I can't get lost into the world like I used to.

On the positive side, I'm getting more real life stuff done, it's just... just very sad to see second life be like this now.

Funny, I haven't had any problems like this. Just the same old lag issues, but that's nothing new!

Maybe something else is afoot here?

I hate to say it coz I'm sure you've heard it before.... have you cleared your cache? Also could double check draw distance... the lower it is, the faster you run (I'm set to 64 m)... just some ideas!

Well, they do SOMETHING that makes it harder to function in SL, I'm pretty sure of that. And I clear cache and all of that.

My stuff is still the same, too - yet if I go texture shopping, or someplace with a lot of content like that, I can only do a little bit (and not move much at all), and have to log off, then get back on before I can do anything else. Becomes nothing but packet loss, too.

I figure it has a lot to do with memory leak - memory leak SL didn't used to have.

In any case, I'm very slowed and crippled compared to the way things used to be, and you know, that is just how it is now. So I do everything even more slowly.

I read about memory leak in JIRA... what exactly is it? I've got the same video cards mentioned (Nvidia GEForce 7800) so the hard crash sounds like what's happening to me (I voted for this bug fix). I'm just curious as to what exactly this means?

All graphics settings are exactly as they were with 1.14 (the best viewer for me so far), draw distance at 104. Average frame rate around 35FPS, nice n smooth

Port setting the same, tried a different one just in case, full cache clear.

There is much more of a delay now in response to movements than before and I remember seeing other posts about this before when the viewer updated to 1.15. :(

It's just like the home computer and their sim servers take a little bit longer to respond to each other now. At least teleporting works pretty much all the time now, great, but I hate the slow responsiveness of it all now. Maybe such things aren't noticeable to those users out there with much slower frame rates. But when you're used to very smooth graphics like I am, this delay is much more noticeable.

People's PCs respond differently to the SL updates. Since there are always going to be SL updates, I think it's fair to say that if one update doesn't bode well for you, hang in there, go in world as necessary, and wait for the next one.

I started doing this too getting slow and lagging badly. I then started crashing alot. Then when i would type it would look like
T
H
I
S
Now my computer just shuts down on me.
Dont know if its because of this issue or not. I have run anti-virus programs, spyware programs noting is working.
Who knows

Memory leak is the client slowly using up your ram memory, without a freeing up of mem no longer used. So your available memory goes down, down, down, until the client can't function with whatever mem is left and....CRASH!

I have been getting this problem also, since the last two updates or so.

I got a little mem utility that cleans up ram when it dips below a threshhold I set, and it seems to help a bit...its called RAMpage and its freeware.

Ping time here (France) from 500mS to 5000mS (yes, 5 seconds). Same computer, same settings, same DSL. 1 second delay and more while typing characters, backspacing, selecting text. This problem is real.

Due to the concurancy flood, the database has acted under stress. Every month, secondlife gets alot more users, thus increasing the Users-Online number. Ive heard zero linden talking, and I think he said something about fixing up and improving the database to acomodate the users.

Lets keep our fingers crossed for the database change (hopefully). But be happy for Linden Labs. A year ago, no one knew about this game, and the average users online was 10-15 k . I know the database has shown its stress, but keep waiting, it will get better I promis :D

Joker, I wish I had your optimism. I've been on SL for over a year. I remember those 10,000 log ins causing problems. It was the same old story then as now "hang in there, it'll get better.......I promise". It's not getting better. It's getting worse (more slowly for me than some, but it's getting worse with every update.....and yes I have upgraded this machine to try to keep up with the times). The problem is that it's perspective.........if you are saying that SL can handle 10,000 users online with ease now, then, yeah they have improved. However, it's not 10,000 anymore........it's most of the time in the 35,000 to 40,000 range with more coming every day. And it's the same problems they had with 10,000........only a little worse. They are losing ground. Losing ground is not getting better.
