Is anyone else having problems like this today? After logging in, about 2 minutes later I am unable to move at all. My clothes and inventory download ok and the camera controls work but it seems as though all connection to the server is lost. My bandwith is around 250 but packet loss is 0. I have logged in and out so many times I have lost count and uninstalled and re-installed, cleared cache, installed the latest viewer, all to no avail. My location is in the UK. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Have you tried starting out in a different location when you log in? Preferences > General Tab > Start Location > check the box named Show Start Location on Login Screen. They you will see a Start Location area on the login screen where you can type in a sim's name and start SL in that sim. You can also select your Home as your start location.

Yes I have tried several different locations, including Pooley, but the same thing happens each time.

Okay, have you tried rebooting the router or modem through which you connect to SL? *mutters direly* I swear, every time I get a power flicker this happens to me too.

Does this problem happen continuously or at specific times of the day? I've heard that some ISPs in the UK limit their bandwidth to customers at certain times. I would like a second opinion on that though.

You should log in several hours later, anyway, pls post ur traceroute information here. (win: tracert secondlife.com, lin or other platform: traceroute secondlife.com).

notes: you need run tracert command at the MS-DOS command line in windows, and run traceroute command form the shell prompt in linux or other platforms.

I'm glad that it helped, Natasha. Goodness knows that with my rural setting my poor routers and modem gets fubar'd on a regular basis. When they do this is exactly what happens to me, I have to reset two routers and then the modem. It behaves as normal* after that.

* Normal dependent on how SL is also behaving.

Cant Move, Hows Your Router Doing?
04-15-2007 16:55
Hey, I have the exact same problem. It seems to happen when my router loses connectivity or has connectivity problems. My router is defective, and I haven't had a chance to replace it yet. But I'm about 80% sure that its the problem.

I use my laptop at home and at work to play. I ONLY experience the problem at home on my defunct router.

What do you think?
