Hello! When I have need of opinions, my first thought is of you all who make this forum so special......and addicting!

Anyway, I run a non profit help/hope/support center in sl. We were just blessed with some land at half price and I am able to make payments on it. We were also blessed with a 1024 plot of land to sell, in order to help pay our debt.

We are thinking about raffling this land off. Has this been done before? I don't know where to start, if there is a raffle system in place, if so can you recommend one? Is this even legal? How much would you raffle tickets off?
Any and all help will be very appreciated!
Thank you!
Aislinn

i have seen a land raffle before.
was set so you buy a L$100 object then the runner of the raffle would select one person on a given date to win.

Long ago there was a gathering place that had weekly land raffles. I attended repeatedly and over time noticed a pattern emerge: The only people who won the land were part of the staff at the gathering place. After they won they'd put the land back into the raffle. The lesson learned: The rigged raffle was meant to increase traffic by tricking people into thinking they might have an honest chance of winning land if they showed up.

My only advice is that staff not be allowed to take part in the raffle.

In this day of unverified SL accounts, that is also pure discrediting of the idea. Sad, but true. : (

Just after LL removed the "first land" scheme, for sale to new residents, I noticed an increase in land raffles/lotteries. As Elex has posted - they were not all completely honest lotteries, but if you want to organise a well run one for your charity, I suggest you post up the rules just as is done in RL, and if possible, get an independant adjudicator to check fair play. Good luck. I'd buy a ticket :)

Is it possible to program a script so an object could randomly choose a winner, allow others to inspect the script, but not allow others to edit it?
