I have a massivly HUGE Nintendo NES system on me, like the size of a building, and I don't know how to get it off!!!!

From: someone
To detach an object from your avatar, you have two options:

1) Right-click the attachment and choose Detach.
2) Or, right-click the object in Inventory and choose Detach from Yourself. A good trick for quickly finding an attached object within your inventory is to search it for "worn". This will show all clothing items, body parts and attachments you're currently wearing.

No, that doesn't work cause I don't have a right button, cause I'm on a Macintosh. It sure would be nice if in Item Properties you could click a little button to take it off!!!!

Welcome to Second Life Ragnar. I believe you have to hold down the Control key when you click. Then select Detach from the pie menu. Good luck! ;)

Edit: Press the Search button (bottom of screen), click the Places tab, and search for 'New Citizen'. A place called 'New Citizen's Plaza' should appear in the results. Select it, and hit the teleport button. You'll find it very useful at this stage. :)

Another person saw me with it and came to the rescue!

Edit --> Detach Object --> Item!

Of course...but the right-click pie menu is a useful shortcut for so many things that you'll find SL much easier in the long-run if you get accustomed to using it. :)

We all got boxes stuck on our heads when we were newbies. You did it up real good though. :)

Here's a tip Ragnar - a basic two button Microsoft optical wheelmouse works extremely well with a Mac and costs very little.

It opens up a lot of day to day OS functions you clearly don't know about, without having to combine mouse clicks with keyepresses.

I'm not sure of the cost of a retail one as I buy OEM packs of 20 at a time - any Mac that I handle has it's ghastly non-ergonomic mouse stored in the junk bin and replaced with a proper mouse, which keeps users happy and avoids unnecessary support calls.
If you can get hold of an OEM unit, do so, it lacks only the box and the software CD - which isn't actually necessary to use it on a Mac - and it'll save you money too!

I hope this will increase your enjoyment of your Mac, despite the presence of a Microsoft logo. :-)

On a Mac with a one-button mouse the solution is Command-Click. That replicats the right-click. It is not normal Macintosh convention (which is option-click) because SL uses the option key as the alt key, i.e. for camera control, focus, et cetera.

Command-click = right click.

I use it all the time when SL-ing from my powerbook.

If you would open your Inventory window, and in the search field type in "worn", all items worn or attached will get pulled up, and you'd then be able to "detach" it from there.

That also lets you know where things are attached to, which can be helpful in other situations as well.

CONTROL+Click on a Mac with a one button mouse.

I've been using Macs since 1988...and always with two buttons on the mouse or trackball...Make the switch...its easy. :)

Oh my, I love that picture!!

Reminds me of the time I was myself new in SL and I wandered around with a box with hair on my head (I had no idea yet that one should get it first out of the box :P). It took some time before I learned how to remove it again...

But as already said, we all have been there.

But they look so sexy!

Hehe

Actually, I used to refuse working with an Apple because of lack of a right hand button.

Happy using them now. But I wish I could get a windows classic-type look. I don't like big icons.

I just bust out laughing when I saw the picture. That is the biggest attachment I have ever seen on an AV...but I suppose you could try your house next time ;) Welcome to SL!

LOL! Great picture. Interesting you say that about sitting down, because it once took me about 45 minutes to get a Mac user with a one button mouse to sit in a speedboat for a tour (back when cross-sim vehicle journeys were reliable ;) ). Maybe it's easier to differentiate between left click and right click than left click and control click. Or command click...or whatever it is you call it. :P

I do wish they'd make the head the default attachment point again. Everybody should have that rite of passage. :D This only ended up on your head because it was the previous attachment point of the Nintendo. ;)

It was changed to the right hand around the beginning of September. :)

Edit: Oh and Gillian, it's not that unusual to see somebody wearing a small prefab on their head from time to time. :D

LOL. Thank you. I entered SL in late September but I have definitely had boxes on my head :) In fact, most recently while exchanging holiday gifts with friends, I still made the mistake of attaching a boxed necklace on my head. I do wish more creators would indicate whether objects are boxed...or indeed wearable right away ;) The clothes I get - if it shows up as an object, it needs to be unpacked. However, jewelry is trickier. And sometimes hair too.

I have to feel sad for everyone that will never have the thrill of standing in a crowded store with a box on their head. Truely a rite of passage.

Then there was the sailboat race in Hollywood when we all had boats on our heads, but that's another story. :)

Oh, I hear you Gillian. :) To this day I'm struck by the "to wear or not to wear" dilemma. The steampunkish bicycle blimp currently (at the point of posting) in my Snapzilla sig for example, looks like a vehicle. So naturally I dragged it out of my inventory only to find it had to be worn.

It would be nice if prims had a 'wear attribute'. Then, if the creator ticked the 'wear' checkbox, the prim or object in question would be represented by an alternative inventory icon indicating to the user that this item should be worn. We're already too overburdened by text in that narrow window.
