I have two separate ban lists: a shorter one for land that I consider commons and which I won't add people to unless I think they're a "clear and present danger" (or an unrepentent jerk), and a longer one for the land around my private spaces, which I will ban people from for much lesser offenses (including bigotry and general annoyingness). However, since these spaces are divided into multiple parcels, in practice that works out to several ban lists, one for each parcel, and updating them can be a hassle.
What kind of tools are out there to better manage a situation like this? What I'd like is to be able to add a name to one list somewhere and have it automatically update each of the appropriate parcels.

You could set up two accounts with BanLink, and use their security orbs. Account A would be one set of orbs, and Account B would be the tighter set, that would be a superset of Account A. Set it up so Account B always trusts and adds bans enacted by Account A, while Account A does not trust or add bans from Account B. Add someone to an orb for Account A, and all your orbs will update. Add someone to the orbs for account B, and only your more private orbs update.
Banlink is free, and handles more banned individuals than a parcel ban list, too.
BanLink also allows you to choose to trust bans from other sims, so if a griefer attacks one site and gets banned, and if you trust the judgement of that sim or parcel owner to be similar to your own, your orbs can pick up and add their bans as well.

I've heard many horrible things about the evils of security orbs, though -- do the BanLink orbs stand out from this? Do they cause extra lag?

I never had lag issues when I used them on the sims I was managing, BanLink's orb software is quite well written. Contact Travis Lambert or Angel Fluffy for BanLink info.

BanLink might be overkill for a situation like this. Since there's a limited # of accounts available on BanLink, setting up 2 for the same area probably wouldn't get approval. You'd be better off creating objects on each parcel that listen to each other. Then to ban someone type "/5ban Joe Avatar" The main object would hear this and issue a scripted ban command, then shout that in a private channel for the other prims to hear and they would issue the same command. If you need help with scripting you can post in the Scripting Tips forum and someone there would be able to explain it a little better I think

Thanks, FireEyes! I don't think I'd want the listening objects as you describe them, but your suggestion sparked an even better idea for me, that I'd be able to tie in with my character's background. It'll be a while before I know how to code it -- the scripting classes never seem to happen when I can be around -- but I think I can wait that long. Not like I have huge amounts of banning going on. *g*
