My partner in SL recently visited me in RL and saw my rippling water. It nice.
When she return home, she unable to engage. Grayed-out.
Anyone know why? TIA

That happens sometimes because textures aren't loading properly. Hit these keys at same time: ctrl alt delet and by tools you get box that shows up called server in characer folder there will be drop down menu on very bottom click rebake. That is what I was told to do. Heard of ctrl alt 6 and ctrl alt 7 but not sure what they do friend told me once to use them when were tping a lot.

Minor correction - it's ctrl-alt-D - (not delete) (I can't speak to the original problem, I've no clue)

Not all PC's will do Ripple Water. Its determined by their Graphics Card. There is a Preference Setting in SL to turn on and off the Ripples. If the Check box for Ripples is grayed out, then your friend's PC simply doesn't have the ability.

Thanks all.
Handled by hardware detection, no doubt. Replies appreciated.

It's completely graphics card related. If yoru graphics can "do" ripple water (for instance my old ATI x300 could not but my new Nvidia 7900 GS can) you can check it off in your advanced graphics option in preferences.

Put simply, if your video card can do Shader Model 3, you can see ripple water. I'm not really familiar with the ATI side of things, but on the Nvidia side, you need at least a GeForce 6000 series card.

Mine is an (older) ATI Raedon 9800 Pro/128 and it fine. Not sure what my partner's is but as you say, it's not doing shader 3. Makes me wonder what other little nicieties are handled by Shader 3 functionality.

I can't see rippled water either, which is odd because I was able to see it perfectly during its beta stages... o well, when my new PC comes in I will be one of the lucky ones once again
