If I'm prepaid in advance?

I went premium originally so I could own land.. but have changes to estate land, so there really is no incentive at all for me to remain a premium account.

I bought quarterly.. will I be refunded my prepayment in lindens or US on my account if I leave a payment option available?

I don't think you will, no. Pretty sure if you downgrade, the downgrade takes place at the end of your subscription term. Could be wrong, but that's my understanding.

You don't get any refund so you might as well stay premium until it expires to keep getting your stipend, and you won't run into problems buying estate land (unless they fixed that by now).

No, you will not get a refund, and you will also probably not be able to buy any mainland in the interim either. When you downgrade LL limits the ability to buy mainland even if you are paid up through a period of time.

Disclaimer in the previous post :). Unless it's been fixed, it applies to all land sales, including estate land for which you wouldn't pay any tier.

I already bought estate land, so that's a non issue. Sounds like it's best to hang onto it until the subscription runs out, so I at least get refunded by my stipends.

The only two advantage of premium I can see is mainland owning, and stipends, and I would prefer to buy lindens when I choose, not have them done automatically from LL.

I own estate land now, so there's no need for it there either.

Can't really see any other reason to remain premium.

Kind of makes me wonder how many other people do the same thing after a while.. the premium membership money can pay for a big plot of estate land, so it becomes a wiser way to spend my money, IMHO.

The only other thing is the new tiered support, with premium you get more support

Well, I only pay tier to the estate owner now, and he service has been exemplary so far, and he's been dealing in world not since 2004.

My estate land was cheaper then mainland, I have no lag there, and no crap sprining up around my home.

My first lend ended up encircled by a casino, a gay german club, another gay club with porno ad pics outside, and a pro escort service.

I sold that land, and bought new mountain top mainland hopiong to escape that, and in a weeks time, had porno ads around it, and a jerk levelling a mountaintop with megaprims building a rental comunity on top, and an angry neighbor of his combatting that with his own megaprims, rotating, and with animated textures on it.

The lack of zoning and regulations on mainland totally turned me off it.

And abuse reports to the Lindens got me nothign more then "we have acted on the abuse" email replies, with nothing actually done in world at all.

No refunds for downgrading... so DO NOT downgrade until you are close to your renewal time. Why would you want to give up free linden stipend? Wait until expiry, then downgrade.

Thanks for the advice, guys! Seems kind of shady not to be refunded if you wish to cancel a service.. the phone companys or cable companies all issue refunds.

But those companies also charge by the month, for the most part.

Cable companies, cell phone companies, and satellite TV companies, not to mention all sorts of subscription services on the Internet, frequently offer deals where you get a service discount in exchange for making a longer-term commitment. The quarterly and annual premium memberships to Second Life are like that as well; you get $2 or $4/month off the bill in exchange for being locked in for the quarter or year.

So how does that justify not refunding the unused balance if the service is cancelled?

Supposed I had been dumb enough to pay a year in advance, and cancelled my account after 2 months... should I not get some kind of refund back?

I could understand a pro rated thing, or a percentage adjustment, but no refund back at all if someone cancels thier accoubnt sems dishonest and bad business to me.

Hehee why not just slap me in the face as well? A number of people told me I was stupid to upgrade my membership, for varying reasns.. I'm starting to see them now.

Once they get thier hooks into you, they don't want to let go.

I've gone back and forth between Premium and Basic numerous times, and only been charged $10 for upgrading - not downgrading.

Sometimes things occur which will cause your private sim landlord to have to sell your land back to you at 0$L (change of sim ownership for example). If you are in the downgrade process you can not buy any land at all. Wait until the last possible moment to downgrade to avoid any potential problems. With phone support down, it will take weeks to get a reply to a problem caused by downgrading account. I speak from personal experience.
