Hello all,

I could really use some help in this. Not sure if it can be done, and what I can do to make it work.

I want to open a bookstore and sell PDF and Ebooks.

I'm thinking once they touch a pay, the PDF or Ebook will be sent to them through email. Is this possilbe?

Or do I have to set it up with something like a 24 hour delivery to email system...? And then how can I do that???

I really want to make this work. Ebooks are so much nicer then notecards!!!

Thanks for all the help I know you all can give. I am willing to hire someone to help me....if not to horribly costly.

One way, is to make the ThinC books... they work really well, all you need to do is add your textures to their content, and then you can publish the book - with animated page turns - really nice. The only draw back of using these books, or any in SL - is that the text, if an image, can not be searched. In future versions of SL Viewer, I am sure they will add capabilites for this - maybe even HTML, Flash, or pdf embedding.. They way I see it - its not a matter of if, its a matter of when. Not possible now, but as SL grows, and other 3d virtual worlds like this gain more market share, the market will force these technologies to become available

For now, if you are intersted in selling or making thinkC books, or anything else, please come to my island English Village. Ive set up a library, you can sell your books there...
cheers - id be glad to help you

You'd have to have the customers provide their emails manually to email them the books. Most people won't have a problem with this, but some will.

The best way, IMHO, to do it would be using a web server for distribution and generating dynamic download links for the books, which are then sent to the avatar in-world.

Yes, I'm finding ou that it is not as easy as I had hoped. I found a nice gentelman to help me out with this, and we are putting out heads together.........

Here is the deal. I'm going to be teaching weight loss and nutrition classes, and I want the members to be able to have some really good quality material for RL. Something to print, if they chose.
I wanted my bookstore to also offer other Ebooks I wrote........

Question: Do you think it would bother people if they had to give me a notecard with their email address and wait for a "24 hour delivery" guarenteed? I just can't see anyother posibility right now..............going to look into slboutique and see if they can have the ebooks delivered to email....

Do anyone have any suggestion??? I have to make this work somehow or another. Inworld books is not an option to me.
I appreciate any help!
Thanks

Like I said, most people won't have a problem providing an email. I have met a couple of people who refuse to associate anything from RL with their SL account beyond what they have to give to LL though, who might do.

Is there a problem with using a web-server?

Web server?............the only problem, lol, Is I have no clue what that is or how to go about it. At this point I just don't need another 'project' to work on....or cost.

Thanks,
