Hello All,

I'm looking for a shoutcast host. I've found a few in game advertisements, and a few through the regular online searches. I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions or short reviews of the hosts they use?

Any info will be helpful in my decision making process.

Thank you,
Dain Lambert

Hi Dain,

I own a RL hosting company and have since 1999. We provide a full-featured control panel which allows you to restart the server, view reports of busiest times, average listen time, etc. We host streams primarily for clubs and I'd be happy to provide references from them.

I like kaet Diamond's service, particularly the fact that it's on-demand: You can just rent a stream for an hour, if that's all you need, and at 128k for 10 people that's only L$28, as I recall! Also, the handful of times I've had trouble (almost always my fault), kaet's been there to take care of things.

I use Server Room. The good about them is that I thought they were cheap. (My package is $12/mo. for 30GB bandwidth per mo.). The bad is that their customer support isn't great.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I'm a little confused about the amount of bandwidth I would need. Some hosts selll the plans by the number of users and the encoding level of the stream. This way makes more sense to me in figuring out what I need.

Some hosts sell by bandwidth. This plan confuses me a bit more. If I was going to DJ for about 2 hours a day for about 20 people max, how would I figure out what bandwidth I would need in the month.

Thanks,
Dain

Hi Dain,

To give you a rough guide. 1 user listening at 128kbit/s for an hour would use around 45MB/hour. So you can work from that.

2 hours streaming x 21 users (20 + you streaming) = around 2GB per day.

Hope that helps.

Jamie.
