Is SL a strong, beneficial community?!

Hi guys!

for my dissertation I am researching SL and its strengths as a virtual community. I want to find out whether modern online communities can have the potential to be as benefical for our well-being as physical/local communities, which are rapidly in decline in modern society.

I am desperate for many, many responds to my online questionnaire, and each answer counts!
if my findings are significant, the report might even be published in an academic journal.

I need residents that have been with SL for a minimum of a month and that visit SL regularly. And who knows, maybe this study has the potential to change the way we think about virtual communities today.

Here the link to the questionnaire:
http://www.esurveyspro.com/Survey.aspx?id=ddb71155-47d1-4b03-8161-0e4274782c35

I know that some of you are worried about how far this questionnaire might affect you personnally, but be ensured that every reply is treated anonymously and with the strictest confidentiality. I will have absolutely no idea who answered what to which question.

However, if you are willing to take part in one of the focus groups taking place in the following weeks, leave your name at the end of the survey or, if you prefer, give me a shout via IM in SL. And even then, all names or any identifying information will always be removed. If I wouldn't do so, my graduation would be at stake!

So, enough of me,
I am hoping for lots of interesting responds!

I've completed the survey and added my name to the willing volunteers list. Good luck with your dissertation. It's an exciting time, do try to enjoy it!

Hi,

Interesting dissertation, indeed.

I'm happy to participate but I need to be sure that you are really a student and not some market research company.

Can you publish a link to this survey somewhere on you university's website?

Cheers,

Lhorentso

thanks kam! very much appreciated :-)

Lhorentso, I am not sure I am at all able to post my questionnaire on our university's website (www.bournemouth.ac.uk, for media school: www.media2.bournemouth.ac.uk), since it has nothing to do with the students around here and areas were I might be able to post the link, such as discussion boards, are only accessible for students and you need a password for it.
No idea how else I could proof that I am a student. If you don't trust the information I have given, then that's ok and you act accordingly (or not for that matter).

but thanks to everyone whose filled in the questionnaire in the last couple of hours! looking forward to more ;-)

I've taken the survey and it seems to be what it claims to be. The questions are about community, culture, identity, trust. No questions about what you buy or might buy.
