I've run across this term quite a bit as I celebrate my 2nd yr birthday in SL.."hoochie hair". It's been blamed as the cause of lag and providing an undesirable atmosphere particularly for group events like parties, concerts and the like. But no one has REALLY given a definition to what "hoochie hair" is.. does it have a look? certain color? what is it EXACTLY?? I'm very interested in what everyone had to say so please feel free.

it is a type of hair design that trade quality by quantity, aka, the creator used a lot of very twisted and tortured shapes to give more detail to a hairstyle without caring at all about the effect it can have on others, typical hoochie hairs are these haircuts that are covered of hundred of little curls

Specifially, cut, tapered, and twisted Toruses. Worst shape there is for performance. The interpolation of the prims doesn't help either.
Not just hair is subjected to this. Any build can effect such. I usually refer to them as "piss-poor builds". Depends on the creator though. I'll gladly help out a new Resident trying to learn to build, but have low patience for older Residents who have been here long enough to know better. The effect has lessened quite a bit in the last four months. Something LL did adjusted for it, though I have no idea what that was. Short answer, "Hootchie Hair" is the same thing as "Blingtards". Just another way where more is less. ~Jessy _____________________

The general rule is that everything that's an attachment causes everyone that sees you to use more processing power to display your avatar. This is commonly called "lag", although it's really "low display FPS", which is something different.
Anyway, when you wear an attachment on your head that has 200 prims, and 30 other people in the room are also wearing hundred prim attachments, that adds up to 12,000 prims that are all being displayed at the same time - just for people's hair. Considering the fact that the entire sim is only supposed to hold around 14,000 prims, you can imagine that it puts quite a load on the CPU of every person in the place. The simplest way to preserve both FPS and lag is for everyone entering a crowded sim to do 2 things: remove ALL attachments that have scripts. Don't just say "AO Off", but detach it entirely. Then remove hair and other attahments that uses more than a couple of prims. |

Speaking of which - and this is only not in products wanted because this thread reminded me to ask and the answers might help other people interested in the same - I've been thinking about getting some 'lag hair' recently - basic avatar non-prim hair, but nicely done, which I can pop on when I find myself in a crowd. Whilst I don't want this to turn into a promo thread, some pointers in the right direction might be helpful

Hootchie Cootchie ... it's barely polite language

I've always presumed "hootchie" (ala hootchie cootchie woman in some blues standards) was a more "polite" way of discussing a woman's privates (lower set). Therefore an overly done-up, frothed up look might be equated with a woman who works street corners professionally, selling her ... cootchie or works as a hootchie mama. At least around my neck of the RL woods that's they way folks use the term.
From the Urban Dictionary : 1. hootchie momma A woman who is considered sexually promiscuous, either due to her attitude, way in which she dresses, or her number of partners, it could also mean a combination of all three. Rapper Lil Kim dresses like a hootchie momma. _____________________

In Southern California I've mostly heard the expression used towards women who tended to dress in a slutty, trailer-park-trashy style. Think Pamela Anderson. Think Anna Nicole Smith.... Lil Kim is also an excellent example.

Ah, now that makes a bit more sense than what I was thinking. I'd guessed hoochie had something to do with lady-bits and its use in describing (usually) very curly hair had me wondering..!
