I,ve bought myself a lovely piece of ocean land and removed the previous owners house which was not really my taste but the only thing i cannot remove or edit is a white particle effect right in the middle of my plot. Now this may seem trivial but this white blinding light is really starting to grate on me especially as i paid a small fortune for this plot of land. Please if anyone can help i will be forever grateful.

Have you tried returning all prims, rather than just deleting the ones you can see? There's probably a prim stuck in the ground, or invisible, that the script is in.

Also note that once particles are activated in a prim they will continue to be generated even if the script is removed so it's not necessarily a scripted prim that's the cause.

might have to go into build mode but select this for 1 time and disable afterwards
view -> beacons -> Particle Sources
might find it that way

I'm guessing maybe there's lots of other stuff you don't want to return, so it may not be easy to find it just by using the About Land | Objects tool to highlight the previous owner's objects. As Alicia suggested (whilst Qie was a-typin'), it may help to turn on View | Beacons | Particle Sources... and of course to view transparent (Control-Alt-T). Next step would be to turn on Wireframe from the Client menu so you can see through the ground and everything else. Once you find the prim, you should be able to select it in the editor by surrounding it--checking the General tab to be sure you have only one object selected before returning it.
Note that particles can be scripted to originate quite a ways from the emitting prim (and to target another from a remove of many sims!), so theoretically, it could be a difficult hunt.

Particle Remover Script

If you remove a particle script from a prim, it will still give off particles. I have a particle remover script which I'll send to anyone who IMs me.
If the prim is deleted, the particles will go away. Sounds like a hidden prim. Highlight Transparent is your friend. (CTRL-ALT T)
