Beavis Cubes attacked me

Some (insert very harsh terms for smelly things here) attacked me with some weird spinning Beavis cubes animation/script (among several other attacks) yesterday while I was on a pose stand (she/he typed "/hunt Diskatopia Paine" and some other commands), and it scrambled my avatar until I logged off and back on. Is there any way to revert back to my regular appearance after such attacks without signing on and off (and losing the IM threads I had going before that)? I tried to go into appearance mode and nothing there worked after the attack. After a minute I just signed back off and on (should have gotten a name and reported, but didn't think, grrrr).

These things are annoying, but they can't follow you through a teleport, so just teleport to some other region, give the jerk time to get bored and move on, and teleport back.

They didn't follow me through the tp, but my avatar was still mangled even after tping twice. Do you know any way to unmangle without logging off?
And are there any settings or somesuch I can change that will prevent such unwanted mangling of my avatar by others?

From: Zaphod Kotobide Hrmm.. What exactly did it do to your avatar? All body parts were twisted and stretched and kind of turned cubic, with a couple of body parts seeming connected to the wrong joints. They might have just seemed that way from the twisting/stretching/cubing, though.

Did you inadvertently click Yes on a dialog to allow an object to animate your avatar?

I'd guess that what you were standing on wasn't the posing stand it appeared, and that it was pushing a wildly distorted animation on your avatar.

Possibly you got distorted by your pose stand. The body distortion sounds like you have in some way been made to run a distorted animation. Depending on how your pose stand is set up, it might be possible for someone else to add an animation to it, and for you to then get your animation set by the pose stand to that unwanted animation.
I'd start out by detaching all items, then do Tools / Stop All Animations, then go to Preferences, Network tab, select clear cache, and restart SL.
If that doesn't fix it then try opening your inventory, open the library folder, and drag a folder like Goth Male or Goth Female onto your avatar.

There's a good chance also that you were surrounded by a transparent sphere (used to orbit you) and it had a touch event that triggered the animation. When you are under assault by griefers, turn on 'see transparent' with ctrl-alt-t just for a heads up of what also might be there.

"Did you inadvertently click Yes on a dialog to allow an object to animate your avatar?" I don't think so, but I was on a pose stand, so it's possible I got suckered into approving the jerk's ani while playing with my inventory (note to self-- be sure ani goes with object being tested from now on ). I was trying many things from my inventory rapidly before the attack and maybe one thing after, I don't remember. But the change did not happen immediately after I clicked any approval or anything, if I did. The attacks started, and I stood there maybe 10-30 secs wondering what the jerk was doing, because of the lack of, well, anything happening other than spinning cubes and spheres/walls of flashing lights. Maybe I approved something and then it kicked in when I left the pose stand? But even if that is this case, "Stop all animations" did not help revert, at least once I tried it after tping. It was no big deal to me except that I had to log off, losing IM threads. I guess if there's no way to fix it other than logoff/logon, I'll have to double my guard to stop it from happening again.

Ahhhhhhh-- now that is highly possible, as I was clicking to attach things from my inventory. I will remember this So clicking to leave the stand could have triggered it maybe (i probably foolishly approved something, doh).

Thanks for the help, keeping me from looking like a Picasso painting again... I should have taken a snap and started a Cubist group, lol Need a T-shirt that says "I survived my first SL minor assault"

Perhaps to allay some fears: All by itself, the touch event couldn't do it; in order to be animated, the avatar has to give permission, either explicitly in a dialog -- certainly possible in the setting -- or implicitly by a sit, like standing on a "special" posing stand.

I just fell off a building and for some reason ended up stuck with my arm twisted backwards too. I think the bone may be broken.

Twice recently I've employed my favourite 'name and shame' tactic against griefers. I get their name by finding the owner of one of their griefing objects (bomb, cage or whatever) and then SHOUT it in 'chat' together with describing what they are doing. In both instances the griefers have immediately disappeared.

1. Press Control + Alt + D to bring up the Client and Sever menus. 2. Under Client...go to Character. 3. Under Character, go to Character tests. 4. Select Test Female. You should now have the default newbie female. From here, you can reapply your skin, shape, hair, shoes, etc. Hope that helps.

Someone get Conan to the avatar hospital quickly please! In all desparate SL situations I reccommend "Ruthing" yourself. Drag the Ruth folder from the library onto your avatar.

That "twisted avatar" thing is a fun new griefer tool. My friend has a couch that will twist you into a very strange pretzel if you sit on it. I looked like some sort of alien praying mantis! And everyone looks different after sitting on it. I wish I could find the pictures to post, we had a blast playing with it. *sigh* As far as I know you cannot fix yourself without relogging.
Perhaps your posing stand is the culprit? A Trojan horse? I'm not sure you have to sit on an object to get that effect, but it was a couch that did it to me.

From: Deira Llanfair Can anyone explain how appearance mode was disabled? Can this be done by a script? Not directly, no. It's conceivable that a script could so flood comms with the viewer that you couldn't get appearance mode to work or somehow otherwise trigger a viewer defect. Lately, though, if one schedules "getting griefed" to coincide with SL network or server delays, appearance mode will fail (whether griefed or not).
