I've downloaded a pic of artwork and as a texture it is perfect! However, when I go to put it into a frame it resizes itself. The pic is a rectangle and I made the frame a rectangle, but the pic insist on being square when placed in the frame. I also tried the pic on a piece of board and it did the same thing.

In the lower part of the texture tab are some settings for repeats and offsets. These are used for adjusting how much of the texture is displayed on the prim or the face of the prim and where. The lower the repeats number is, the wider (or taller) the texture will stretch.

When I attempt to stretch the pic, even slightly, it seems to greatly distort and then when I attempt to change it back to where I started it will not do it.

Robin, are you trying to put the picture onto a single prim surface or onto something larger. Are you putting the image on a flat surface or something else. You say it works as a texture - but thats what an image is - you treat it the same way. I, and many others have been successful, in displaying all sorts of pictures, all sorts of shapes, on all sorts of surfaces - give us a bit more information and I am sure someone can give you the explicit information to get past this bump. Good luck with this and all the others I am sure you are going to want to display.

I've tried both placing it onto the frame and then resizing; and resizing the frame then placing the pic on.

Robin, in the edit window for the image in-world do you not have height x width or X x Y multipliers that you can set to 1.00 in both directions?

I've tried both placing it onto the frame and then resizing; and resizing the frame then placing the pic on. I can't see the library object while I'm at work, but it sounds like the mapping is independent of the of the object's dimensions. In the Texture tab, what kind of mapping is it using? If it's anything but Default, then the texture mapping stays constant even as you change the object's dimensions. To change the texture's appearance you must change the repeat numbers. Also, this isn't the right forum for this question.

From: Robin Ivory It is Default, and I'm moving to the Design and Textures forum. After 4+ house in the Design and Textures forum without an answer, I'm back. Under the texture tab the texture is "multiple" and the color is "white" - the repeats are U:2.620 and V: 0.020 with repeats per meter of 2.0, everything else is 0.000 Under the object tab I am guessing that size it the most important thing: X = 1.311 Y = 0.010 Z = 1.201 if I change any of the size paramenters the pic gets all out of shape and stays that way even if I change it back to where I started.

No matter how much I play with this, all I can do is to make it larger or smaller, it continues to stay square. I just cannot get the rectangle effect of the upload.

Robin, you're in the wrong tab. The point is not to make the *object* change size, you need to change the * texture * size. They are independent of each other. Click on the Texture object and work with the Horizontal and Vertical repeats.

What is the size of the texture? (should be something like 512*512)
When you apply a texture to the surface of a prim, the texture covers it all. It may be stretched, or repeated, depending on the settings, but there will be no blank area. So your problem is a bit weird.
Did you upload the original picture "as is", or did you leave a transparent border around it? Is the front of your frame made of just one surface? (is it a simple box, or is it a tortured thingamaggic?)
Also a snapshot would help us see what's wrong.

From: Robin Ivory Yes, should I set them to 1.00? Sorry Robin, yes that is what I meant .. and you don't want multiple I'm pretty sure. edit: my mention of X and Y is misleading. I mean U and V and not sure if you want zero or 1.00 in your repeats.
