I am pretty new to SL video, but I am a video producer and I bought a lil webserver and am looking forward to streaming some movies for friends to come over and watch. I am wondering how do I get it so it is playing in sync for everyone in the room? Is it even possible?

It's possible, because internet television does it. But what they do (as far as I know) is broadcasts their feed 24/7, instead of on call. How they do this I haven't the foggiest as I'm not technically adept in that department in the least bit. I assure you however it's possible.

Joseph mostly answered the question . If you want everyone to see the same thing at the same thing (buffering might throw this off by a few seconds) then you'll need a live stream instead of an on-demand one. One (somewhat clumsy) other way is to pause and restart the stream at a certain time index for everyone watching if someone watching looses the stream for some reason from within SL through a script.

Exactly. SL can easily start a video for 10 people, and keep them all in sync through it, but it's best to stream a video live. If one of the people in your party has a buffer underrun during a non live stream, they are officially out of sync from everyone else.
Great example is Shaft Jackson's movies have a great video syncing feature. I am also working on finishing up scripting a video syncing tool for my new store. IT's not too difficult, but not simple either.
