I'm being visited by 'performance Tester'

I just installed a greeter on my land and I noticed today that 'performance Tester' has been visiting my place frequently over the last few days.

Is there a reason for this, other than random testing?

Sounds to me like that is someone's idea of a "punny" avatar name. All LL employees have the last name of Linden.

Maybe "performance Tester" just likes your place... probably uses your poseballs when you aren't looking, too. ;)

Performance Tester is probably a Linden operated bot.

They are known for leaving trash around.

I think they rez objects and time how long it takes for them to appear, and sometimes the intended deletion does not occur.

Tester is a last name reserved for use by Linden, there have been human Linden staff running Tester accounts, I believe.

I thought all the Tester accounts were Lindens.

tester are linden controlled accounts

some are bots, some are people, all are used to obviously test things

how do I know this?

I saw a tester about a week ago, and asked a linden and that is what I was told.

a tester account is linden only, just not always a person, sometimes it is a bot, running a program gathering data.
(some even have that info written in the 2nd life tab)

Looks like there are 4 of them, these are Linden testers....profiles say
"This account is used by Linden Lab to perform timing and reliability tests on the main grid for various actions such as teleporting and wearing attachments. It is an automated system that will not respond to chat or IM. Statistics collected are used to monitor and improve system performance."

I see em all the time at the club I'm working at, and they pop in and out at a spot near Ahern a lot. Thought it was the oddest thing until I looked at the profile lol

It's not just 'performance Tester', it's also performance4, performance5, performance2.

I watched one pop in and then leave within 10 seconds.

I get them in my place a lot.. I think it has to do with traffic - the more you have, the more likely you are to see one.

Meta mentioned that various Lindens around the world are (or soon will be?) running them from their locations so it's not just testing how good things are from next door to the machine room..

A good sign that your sim is happy. I've seen them there for several minutes when the sim has a stuck download queue or some other problem..

there are more than just performance testers

do a search for the name tester

you will see a lot with that last name
(if you search under people for tester, you will have to advance a page or 2)

I was told that only lindens can use tester as a last name... sure is a lot of testers...

My neighbor has 15-25 campers around the clock. So that might be why they are scoping out our SIM.

Performance tester is a Linden Lab owned 'bot that checks for real-world performance issues in sims on the grid. 'least dats what I was tole at one of the office hours.

Hm that's interesting. I've never seen one... but then again... I don't have any land... or a house... or really anything... xD

They should make them look like large mech robots (sort of like xoids or transformers) and then you will KNOW it's a tester from far off... although... that'd be kind fo scary to see a mech just walk into your jazz club... lol Talk about a mood breaker.

The other night I had a visitor called "Computer Allen". It was a bot used by a web search engine for SL. I couldn't even take a snap because it poofed within seconds. But I loved the prim robot ava with the spinning head and the logo on the belly. :)

Thats a series of landbots run by one person......Best way to deal with that series is banned them from your land

I've seen both in world, i thought at first that performance was a person, had no idea it was a bot and thought they were really rude when i said hi and they didnt reply, just turned their back to me adn stood there idly for about ten mins.. now i know why i have one dropping in on my sim from time to time

The Testers to worry about are, Bed Tester and Poseball Tester.

Well, it's one thing to monitor sims remotely and it's another to monitor sims and their affects on avatars. I'm actually reassured that they DO monitor via bot.

Likewise. If I recall, the idea was to get a closer grasp of what sim performance was from an avatar perspective on a very regular (faster than human) basis. I tink some of the stats end up in Meta's reports, but I could be wrong.
