Expired Terminal Signs When Tier Is Current

I have about 19K meters of land in a private sim and have noticed that for the last month or so every tier terminal on my lands that I bought from private parties rather than the estate itself are displaying "Expired" signs when tier is current.

Oddly enough the first property I bought in the sim never does this. It is paid up as well and shows itself as paid.

I was able to get rid of one of the signs by paying another month in advance of the current one but less than a week later, it was back to saying Expired again!

I contacted the estate manager and was told that there wasn't anything he could do about it; that it was something borked with SL and to just ignore it. However, if the system screws up and tries to make the property "available" because the terminal is saying Expired and some land bot steals my property I am going to do something really drastic and poorly thought out! : )

Has anyone had this problem before or does anyone know whether this is something that the estate manager can fix? Does the sim have to be restarted and will that fix it? Or am I really just SOL? It is very embarassing to show the property to potential landscaping clients and have to constantly explain those signs.

Hi Kascha. It sounds like the estate owner is using a rental system that isn't working well at the moment. I don't think it's true that they CAN'T do anything about it, but at the same time, I can understand why the WON'T do anything about it. Replacing their previously working rental system for an entire estate could be expensive and time consuming, and the replacement might not work either if it really is an SL problem.

Still, I would expect better communication from the owner/manager about it. Technically they can return the land to you if it erroneously goes back on the market, but I'm not sure I would trust them to do that when their previous communication on a problem was just "Sorry, nothing I can do." I would hope at least for an explanation of the problem and what is being done to remedy it. If they can't do that, I would wonder if the person even knows what they're doing. Any dimwit with $1700 can buy an island, but that doesn't mean they know how to use the tools to manage it.

Since this does end up reflecting badly on you in front of clients, you might have to consider setting up shop somewhere with a more responsive and capable landlord. I know that would stink, but you have to decide if it's worth the trouble for you.

FYI. If your land is on a private estate, you don't have to worry about land bots...

Thank you so much you guys. I have been having a lot of problems with my estate manager's response time, and from what I'm told I'm not the only one. The friend who I bought the land from used to own half of the sim we're in and has a lot of influence with the manager and he has made sure that my needs have been attended to. Without him I get ignored, even as I've become the largest landowner in the sim.

The estate manager is, I'm told, one of the largest in SL. He is supposedly no stranger to running sims, so I'm not sure what is going on. I have invested a ton of money into my property and although I'm more than sure I could sell my property and make a considerable profit I love my location and don't want to move. So I guess I'm stuck with this.

I don't actively conduct business on the property, but I was planning on including it in my portfolio, since everyone that sees it ends up wanting to retain me for their own landscaping needs. The signs make me look like an irresponsible slacker, but I guess they don't really kill me when it comes down to it.

I guess I just find it funny that it only affected my private party purchases and not the one from the estate owner. Nobody else in the sim seems to have Expired signs though, so that makes it look even worse.

Is the portfolio a "come and see my work in person" thing, or is it photographs (screenshots)?

If it's photos, there is a little trick in the Client menu that might help. In the Rendering submenu is something like "Hide Selected". When you check that and then open the edit window, anything you select will turn invisible to you. I often use this to hide various ugliness when taking pictures of otherwise beautiful scenes.

P.S. My alt is a Matova too! :D

Thanks so much Ava that really will help me out a lot : )

Originally I had planned to change the texture on my drafting table at the office to a scripted image so people could flip through the designs. That coupled with a larger display on a wall would cover most of it. Of course, I did want people to be able to make appointments to tour the properties I've worked on where possible (and using my own home as a centerpiece). That's where things became really iffy with the signs.

You've got a Matova in the family? Yay! We're the best, hehe : -D
