I remember reading recently that the users of a popular metaverse application did quite loudly and proudly and in one voice DEMAND a complete addressing of the current problems.

From: someone
We remain fully supportive of Second Life and are more than willing to continue doing our part to help, but our confidence is steadily being eroded due to a general lack of communication and the apparent failure to successfully address the many issues detailed above. What we are asking for is that these problems are addressed immediately, ahead of new features, and that we are able to see tangible improvements. We accept that this will not happen overnight but it also cannot be allowed to continue indefinitely either.

Did you guys actually read the last part of it or did your attention spans reach their limits. This is a good representation of your userbase saying that unless things improve their support for your platform will cease, and in droves might i add.

Your response to this has been to announce yet more new features, ok at least one in truth would have little impact as you mentioned on overall grid stability that of the sculpted prims, but voice?.

We do for the most part agree that getting children out of the main grid and back in the teen grid is a good thing for a multitude of reasons, keeping them away from adult content for one. However i think alot of people took offence when you turned to us telling us that we are the ones legally and morally obligated to deal with this problem.

For a very long time now the main grid has been open to anyone of any age to view anything they wish, and yes its good to now place restrictions on that content, but ill be damned if you tell me that it is my sole responsibility or that of my fellow users.

It is your legal responsibility and im damn sure one that has been breached for a very long time that you as a service provider also catering to adult material MUST have in place measures to prevent underage users from viewing explicit content.

Want my credit card details? sure i dont mind, i put money into sl for things and it gives you a good idea i could well be over 18.

Want anything else? No chance!

It is you Linden Labs who have allowed minors access to sexually explicit material without proper restrictions and in doing so not given your userbase who are legally of age any form of reliable information as to if they are dealing with a child or not. Can you think for one moment the kinds of things that will have been going on inside the grid while these measures have not been in place?.

Back to the point at hand, since the open letter which in nice clear print is telling you that your userbase is about to take a very steep drop, you have then added that you will integrate age verification that will again see numbers drop, and on top of that put the job square on the users shoulders, which will see another drop in both users and your financial situation. Add to that the voice, removing our true point of contact to you, servers that just cannot crunch numbers and a growing percentage of unhappy tennants and you dear LL have a decision to make. Take us for as much as you can get before we all dart for your nearest contender or for once do the right thing and listen to what is really needed for your continued success.

You will lose alot of support if you do not address what we asked you to address and promptly. I can see 2007 becoming the year you went a step too far.

Please linden labs, this software is more than numbers to a fair few people here, hearts are involved, once you break your communities heart, thats it, game over!

PLEASE MOVE TO APPROPRIATE SECTION! SORRY :P

You know both of these were in the works before openletter was announced?

I think that someone that makes a Alt ID to post of the forum fears retribution for what he is saying therefore should have no expectation of being taken seriously because he has risked nothing...
Just my thought
