Ok, I'm not sure if this belongs here or not but I don't care. When I tried to log on this morning(Wednesday) Sl offered an update. It was not neccesary but recommended. I downloaded it and when I went to log in Sl just crashed and crashed and crashed. Hmmm.
I did the crash report(does that really help at all?) I decided to uninstall and reinstall. Now that I have done that, I still cant' log in. All it does is crash and crash and crash. The message that comes up before it crashes is something like viewer setting have been change or something like that. I have not had any problems before this unneccesary update. Does anyone have any suggestions. It's kind of frustrating.

3 things you can do:-

1) Try uninstalling Second Life and reboot your <insert computer type here>, then install the new version.
2) When the client loads, click Preferences and go to Network tab, click Clear cache and reboot your <insert computer type here>.
3) If you are using Windows XP, try a restore to say 2 days ago and use the old Second Life client 'viewer' and see if that works.

I would do them in that order.

It would be helpful if you could post the exact error message. It would make it easier to advise you. Also , as with any new software, some bugs pop up. People have had issues with it . If you have the previous version on your nmachine,I'd suggest reinstalling it. There is a link to redownload it here somewhere as well. I'd wait a few days for the dust to settle on the new viewer.

This may be on Lindens end, as this is what happened to many of us last night. For about 5 hours many of us could not log on. Look through Lindens update blog (last night) to read about the problem.

Now I don't know if this was a coincedence or not, but after waiting for hours and hours, I went and updated my Radeon driver, and the very next instant was able to log in...........

But be patient, I think its on Lindens ends. So sad to hear this happened again.

But my opinion is this. I have more GOOD times with SL then with Bad. So its worth sticking around for me and not getting upset over it...........

I haven't updated my viewer yet (long uninteresting story) and I had trouble logging in with both the previous viewer and the latest beta version of First Look, so many of the troubles were server side. Even when I did get in, SL was slow to render, which was a royal pain because what I needed inworld was a photo shoot session.

That being said, at the same time this was going on, I'm sure many crashes *were* related to FL. From what I've read on the FL testing blogs, it is imperative to have up-to-date graphics drivers and there are probably many people who have been skating by on older drivers. There is also a complete resetting of defaults (this is a new viewer, so your old setting are not tranferable) and that causes other crashes. The default VBO setting seems to be a common culprit.
