Can`t get into SL with new update - Is it just me? :((

Downloaded v1.16 and now I can`t get into SL....It gets as far as starting to open the login screen and then just vanishes in a split second and is gone!

Same thing was happening when I downloaded the optional update, so I did a system restore to get rid of that and everything was fine again, now the update is mandatory & I don`t know what else to try.

I`ve cleaned puter files, restarted puter and reinstalled SL more times then I can count, I`ve even turned off all my security to see if that helps, but nothing does.

Anyone got any suggestions of what to try while I am waiting for Support to get back to me coz I don`t think I can cope with the withdrawal symptoms for that long!!

Your not alone, I experienced the same problem, and did exactly same things you have done, and yet it seems still... no one seems to have any answers.. could someone please help us fix this bug???

Theres normally a bottleneck in teh first hour after SL reopens from a patch. Dont fret.

Its not even letting me get as far the bottleneck Warda, the window disappears before it even lets me click CONNECT.

I spent 4 hours trying to get in with the optional update before deleting that, now I don`t have a plan-B with this mandatory one *sigh*

same with a friend, sl client keeps nagging about windows not running in 32bit while it is

not even the old clients work after an uninstall of 1.16 with deleting everything

I can't even get to the connect page.. I getan error message saying I need to use 32 bit colour (which I am) and then all my icons get really big and distorted and I have to exit.
I have tried just about everything as well..

Try re-installing it. Maybe something didn't get copied correctly the first go around.

I agree .. with the addition of deleting the SecondLife folder which contains settings which might be the offending culprits. Look under C:\Documents and Settings\(your username)\SecondLife or elsewhere if you redirected it.

hey peewee, I did some research looking in every self help bug fix I could find, to solve this problem.. I finally came across something that may just work for you, it helped me..
I re-installed the 14.1 update, then I right clicked on the SL logo, went to properties, and under shortcut target tab, where it says, documents/files/secondlife, put a space, then -noaudio then hit apply
that should fix your problem, but my newest problem is, I have no sound in SL, and I have checked all the sliders and everything in my preferences, so I have no clue, unless it has to do with what I put in shortcut, target just to make SL run for me... does anyone out there maybe know how to find a solution to this sound issue?

Carys, this happened to me a while ago... I kept getting this error message even tho in the CONTROL PANEL I was set to 32 bit color... but when I check the PROPERTIES of the SL shortcut icon (I think under compatibility?) it was set to 256 colors. Double check your icon or shortcut on the desktop...

The Target on my Shortcut tab says: "C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SecondLife.exe", I don`t see "documents/files/secondlife" on that tab at all.

I think I need a big red moron arrow pointing to where I should be looking hehehe

I downloaded the latest update on the Beta grid today and that is working with no problem at all, its making me nuts that I still can`t get into the main grid!!

Thanks also to Ike & Bilbo for replying, but I have reinstalled several times already, including totally removing all traces of Secondlife from my puter ....doesn`t fix it.

LOL Peewee, yes you are right... is my blonde showing.lol, anyway yes you were at the right place, try putting in there what I had said to do before ok... see if that helps, and yes I was in the beta test grid lastnite with no problems at all as well.. so we know our systems are compatible with the new update.. I really think theres a bug that they need to correct for us to be able to have no issues, but for now, please try what I have suggested and see if it helps you get into SL.. it worked for me, only downside is I have no sound.. try it and let me know, if your having the same no sound issue, once you get inworld..
