Sound when receiving IM's

I seem to remember that a little bell used to ring when someone sent you an IM, but that doesn't seem to happen now since the last update. It tinkles when I first log on, but not at any other time, and my friends (not that I have many) think I am ignoring them because I haven't noticed their message. Is there something I need to tweak in the debug settings???

Secondly, and a bit off topic, when posting in the forums when I type it's kind of jerky, like there is a second or so's delay between hitting the keys and the letters appearing. Only seems to happen here. anyone else getting this, or is it just me??

It's happen to me off and on. I am not sure why, but it usually resolves itself.

Assuming that you have your sound turned on, check UISndNewIncomingIMSession in your debug menu, the value should be 67cc2844-00f3-2b3c-b991-6418d01e1bb7

I've come to loathe that "t-ting" sound. Not that there is anything intrinsically wrong with it. It would just be nice to change it after so many years. I wonder if it's located in the directory somewhere.

Just change the value of UISndNewIncomingIMSession (In Debug) to the UUID of the sound you want :)

I´m missing the sound myself and it´s annoying me...
Checked on the debug setting but the value is right.
Where do I find other sounds ?

Frustratingly, the UiSnd* variables tend to lose what sound they make now and then. It is not uncommon for me to lose the sound when a windows opens (or the one when it closes). It must be in the main codebase as it happens to me no matter the client I am using at the time. You can temporarily fix it by locating the debug setting for the missing sound and putting the identifier for any other sound resource in there. For example, if the opening or closing windows sound goes bye-bye just copy the id that is in the other one UiSnd debug variable.

If no duplicate is available, just do something like use a laser blast for the IM beep. Guaranteed not to miss that one if you are AFK. :)

I am guessing that the client deletes the relevant UI sound from the cache (although it should never do that in a real cache) but then thinks it is still there. So manually deleting the cache might force it to re-downloaded (but why it is cached instead of kept with the application as a resource I have no idea).

Yes, frustrating, but you expected better of the SL code?
