I've been searching around for information about land permissions and not finding much. I can see that people seem to recommend doing all land permissions through groups. What I am not finding is what permissions are assigned when you set your land permission to allow by avatar.
For my own current purposes, I just want to allow a handful of friends to hang out on my land, be able to rez shopping boxes and, maybe, practice building. I don't need/want them to be able to edit any of my stuff/land.
Is there a document somewhere that lists all of the permissions that are conferred when using by avatar land permissions, as opposed to by group permissions? I would love to see a detailed analysis of land permissions for both groups and avatars. Does anyone have a link?
Thanks for listening.

hi Jen, To do what you want to do, just limit the access of your parcel to your friends. In the options (I think, I'm at work and don't have SL running) tab of 'about land' you can select to have 'residents' or 'everyone' create objects (this means rezzing them in the parcel), but only the people that are actually allowed on the parcel will be able to do this. You don't need to do group anything. Same with terrain editing; if you don't want anyone else but you to be able to edit terrain, just uncheck both boxes for this option. Again, you DON'T need to create a group for these things.

Thank you, Oryx. I appreciate your response. It's nice to hear I don't have to have a group.
