I currently have a Geforce 8500 GT graphics card and am looking to upgrade. Ideally I would like an 8800 but these are difficult to come by "new". My computer memory is 2GB, AMD Athlon 64 x 2 Dual Core Porcessor 5000+, 2.61 GHz 2.00 GB of Ram.

Can anyone recommend a good but not too pricey graphics card to upgrade to

The 9800GT is the replacement for the 8800GT, and is virtually the same thing.

Agreed, and can be had for about the same, or even *less* money.

I agree the 9800 GT or GTX and even the GTX+ are replacements for the 8800's. On the plus side they run much cooler........on the down slde the cards are physically huge. I had to rearrange my cables and move my 9 in 1 card reader down a slot to make room lengthwise......and move my network interface card down one slot to compensate for the thickness of the card (cooling fans and heat sinks are about half again as thick as most other cards). You have one PCI slot unusable......so if you are short availale slots you need to consider that. My card is the 9800GTX+.

With a little shopping I'm sure you can beat that price listed on Tom's Hardware. I paid $129 for mine just under a year ago. PNY is the manufacturer. I'd say go for that card.....great price and very good performance.

Hi Guys just to say thank you for all your advice and confirmation. Hoping my computer is not too awkwardly arranged to fit it in.

Off to buy the 9800 now :))
