Hey, y'all:
I have a couple of sounds that I want to upload into SL. I understand that I need to make the sounds .wav format, 16 bit, 44.1mHz. So I got r8brain, and I reformatted them to 16 bit, 44100. I sent them to a friend who's already online (since I can't get in), and she says they won't upload...they're showing as unsupported format. What am I doing wrong? Is there a naming convention or something?
Assistance greatfully accepted!!

Get the program AUDACITY --it's a free, multi-track recorder. I use it for all my sounds.
From there, you export to WAV, no questions asked, and they upload no problem (doesn't even ask for a bit rate).
When you upload a sound, Second Life asks you for bit rate (quality)--any choice will work.
I don't know why you would have a problem--as long as it is a WAV file.

Dangit! I wonder what's wrong with these sounds!! I tried Audacity the first time, because I absolutely adore it...but my friend said those files were a no go. So I ran them through r8brain to try and get them right, and she says it's still no go. Grrr. What am I doing wrong? It shouldn't be this hard to figure out!

I'd like to hope that's it. I mean, they were in WAV format to begin with, so I couldn't figure out what was wrong. So I logged out so I could make them 16-bit, but then I couldn't get back in. I suppose it's possible logins had been disabled from the time I first tried, I just hadn't logged out so I didn't know. Hmm.

Are they too long?
Go experiment on the preview grid.

I don't think so - none of them is longer than 10 seconds. Most are 4?

This might be a stupid answer, but I always ran wavs that I converted from mp3s with another program through the simple sound recorder supplied with every pc and saved them from there, then they always uploaded. I don't know if they lose any quality, but they were uploadable.
