I would recommend Lindex for what you are asking.
You want to sell for the lowest exchange rate possible, and buy at the highest rate (L$ to US$). When I last looked, Lindex was 250L/1$ while SLX was 280L/1$. It's been a few weeks so those rates are probably not current.
What this means is that for every 2604L you sell on Lindex, you will make 1$ more than you would have made on SLX (at the above exchange rates). The flip side of this is that for every 2604L you buy on Lindex, you will spend 1$ more than on SLX.

Assuming that you can withdraw USD from LindeX in reasonable time (if you can withdraw them at all).

Of course, the Lindex (and LL) is extremely well known for being slower than snot when it comes to paying you RL money. SLexchange can usually transfer your money to paypal within 24-48 hours of your withdrawal. Therefore, depending on your bank, and how you time it..
From the moment you decide "I'd like to sell off these lindens" til the time it shows up in your bank account... could be as little as 4 days with SLX (though for me it's usually more like 5-7)..
Whereas, LL's Lindex has been known to take a month or longer.
So, while it's true, you could save a few bucks on the transaction by using the Lindex.. time and reliability has value too. It's a balancing act, and only you can make the determination of what's more important to you.
As of this moment... SLX: L$15,000 = $51.67 Lindex: L$15,000 = US$52.45
SLX will charge you ONE DOLLAR to transfer that money to paypal. (using mass pay) Lindex will charge you the same for paypal. Lindex will charge you $10 to send you a check (in the US) or $15 (internationally)
Difference?
When something goes wrong at SLX.. it gets looked into that very day. Most problems there (i've had only one in 4 months) are fixed in a very short period of time. The staff there cares, and is focussed on providing a specific group of services, to it's valued customers.
When something goes wrong at the Lindex.. you're one of 4 million accounts complaining about something. Call them and wait on hold for 20 minutes before getting sent to voicemail.. or send an email to support@secondlife.com... and we all know how well THAT works, right?
Who do you want dealing with your problem, when your $50 goes missing? As the saying goes... "What's in your wallet?"
Lindex: "Your call is very important to us.. please continue holding."
