Avatars appears grey

Can someone please help me.... there are some areas on SL that when I teleport into every avatar appears grey (their skin, face, everything... all grey). The land objects and textures are fine (even my avatar is good), just all other avatars are not. Even when I wait a considerable amount of time for rezing, it doesn't change them.

Is there an option or something I need to do to fix this?

Thanks

It can happen at times, esp if the area is very busy. Seems like they usually rez in eventually.

There may be things you can do to help. Maybe someone else can offer some advice?

You might try doing Control P for preferences, then Adv. Graphics tab, and increase the Outfit Composite Limit to 15 or 20.

This is not guaranteed to work but it has worked for me many times before.

Seriously, I get that a lot too - in my case it's due to a graphics card that isn't really built for SL. I might try Suezanne's suggestion, if my graphics card will stand for it.

Sim restart

I've been told that this is usually an indication that the simulator's (not the client's) cache is full. Certainly, whenever I notice it in one of the sims where I'm an estate manager, restarting the sim always restores things to normal.

You could try asking the sim owner or an estate manager to restart the sim if it's a private island. If it's mainland, I guess you would have to ask LL, I have no experience of mainland sim management.

Nicholas, I am SO tempted to call you a dipstick or a plonker, but if you haven't seen Only Fools and Horses you'd probably punch out my lights.

He'd probably let the tyres down on your yellow Reliant Robin ... AND punch your lights out ;)

Menage a trois! Menage a trois! I'm still in hock to Boycie for it - I'd better be careful.

You can do this, but just be aware that the higher the number, the more of a performance hit you will take. I have mine set at zero and I can't remember the last time I saw a gray person.

My trick for gray avatars is to focus my camera on each of them in turn. That usually wakes up SL and the textures come in shortly thereafter.

No, no...

[Haley Joe Osmet whisper] I see grey people.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.
