New Skin, now tattoos don't work: Why?

Hi,

I bought a new skin yesterday, from By Max, and not cheap at L$4,000

Tried it on, the g/f liked it, then she said, OK, put your tattoos on now. But when I dragged my tattoos from my Inventory to my body, it came up with an error message, saying something like, This Outfit Folder contains no body parts or clothes or accessories.

My g/f has a new skin, and has no problem putting her tats on, so why me? is it because my skin is No Modify?

Any suggestions/advice gratefully received.

Rock

In SL, tattoos come in two ways:

1.As part of a skin,which you can't modify;

2.As clothing, which you wear on your skin and can be removed.

You must be #2...If your tattoo file displays a clothing icon, simply wear it;dragging it onto your skin template won't work and you'll likely have the aforementioned error message.

Well, that should do the trick :)

Or #3 your tattoos are textures and your new skin is no mod so you cannot place the textures on your new skin but your old skin was modifiable and thus you were able to wear them.

Your solution is simple. Create a new undershirt and/or underpants (wherever you wore those tats) using Appearance. Set the texture to blank and don't touch the color. Apply your tattoo as a texture to that shirt. Essentially you just created an invisible undershirt (the alpha portions of the texture), which when worn will look like the tattoos are being worn (#2 as described above). A friend of mine had to do this for his "chest hair" when he changed skins from mod skin (hair texture applied to the skin) to a no mod skin (hair texture applied to an undershirt).

Hi Rock :)

All skins except the default Linden ones use the tattoo layer which is why this isn't working for you anymore. Hopefully one day they'll add extra layers as this won't be a problem anymore but until then we have to make due.

You have two choices:

1) You can create an undershit/underwear layer and wear your tattoos on that. This is easiest, with the downside being you obviously can't wear other clothes that use the underwear layers. Most don't so that shouldn't be a big problem.

2) You can contact me in world and I can add your tattoos to the skins.

Just IM if you have any other questions :)

How would you add the tattoos to the skins? I didn't know this was possible.

Because he is the Max from Max skins. He can modify his own creations.
