Tryin to start my Second Life

Hey all... I've been wandering SL a couple days now and I see it's got awesome potential. I love the possibilities for me to create my avatar into anything I want him to be... I just can't seem to find out how. I've tried lookin around and searching places and stuff... just can't seem to find what, or who I'm lookin for. Maybe you all can help.

I'm interested in
Building/texturing
Scripting
Roleplaying - (Mainly things like Mideval kinght, star wars, or organized crime)
Socalizing (I've been to clubs but there's just too many people there and it's easy to lose what people are saying and to who)

I guess basically I'm just lookin for groups of people to hang out with, have fun, and learn from all at the same time. Any advice given is much appreciated. Also... I'm tired of lookin like a noob (even tho I am one. ) so any advice on skins and stuff is appreciated... and maybe jobs to pay for it all. lol

Go to the Search Window, and Open the "Places" tab. Do a search for "The Shelter". You will find all the instruction and resources you need there, and Lots of people willing to Help.

Want to know how to make around 800L for free? Go into the search, select the all tab, and type in Hippie Bank. This place has atms you click on and they take you to a website. You take surveys on these websites and get free Linden dollars. (You have to be in the U.S. and take most of them for all 800 or so Linden dollars) You can also visit clubs and see if the owner needs any employees, lets say a bouncer for instance or maybe a dancer.

As for building and scripting, go into the search again and under the events tab, type in education. There are lots of freebie classes taking place for scripting and building. (Try the knowledge Base also http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/ ) The classes offer first hand starter information you can practice in world with a teacher. This site is great for shopping for almost everything. http://www.slexchange.com You will need to make an account here and verify it. You can transfer Linden dollars to the site through atms in world. Go to search, type in slexhange and fine the headquarters. (This site doesn't have much as far as skins. Use search in the All tab and type in skins to find in world stores for skins.)

The search feature is your friend! I am part of some Star Wars themed groups and some of my friends are in the Second Life Mafia, lol. Press search, under the Groups tab, you can type in Star Wars/Jedi/Sith and Mafia.

Thanks for the advice... I did some Searching today and found some fairly cool lookin places but now I've got a question... are there any roleplay communities that aren't Forced sex and whatnot?

Depends what kind of RP you are looking for.

Avilon (medieval RP) is pretty cool. But there are more sims/groups around.

Mostly when someone starts to RP to me, I RP back .
