Hey, srry to ask probably the world most obvious question but how the heck do I get rid of my avatar's stupid chipmunk head and tail...lol...I know its my own fault for choosing him in the first place.

I have tried everything in the appearance tab, from hieight, color, fat, thin, clothes...i can do all that, just dunno how to make a normal head..ARGH. Please help if you can.

Thx

Right-click your head and select "detach", or right-click your body and select "take off" --> "detach all", or locate head and tail in your inventory, right-click the files and "detach", or look for another avatar folder (there are some in your Library folder, under Clothing) and drag it onto your body.

Furry heads and tails are prim attachments, means they're not part of your avatar but a 3D object attached to your body. Your normal human head is hidden by the furry head until you detach it.

err....did you choose a furry avatar when you first came into SL?

I believe their are other avatars to choose from in your inventory. I'm at work and can't get in world right now to point you to the correct folder, but there should be a male and female avatar folder in your inventory so you can change shape.

open inventory, select library folder.
in there choose clothes. a whole plethora of other avatars you can just pull the folders onto your body.
check out Help Island or the website knowledgebase for how-to's to learn more :)

edit: sorry Ishtara, must have skipped past your line about library!

another way to undo the stray prim problem

Remember, we were all new once, so being new to SL isn't a crime, just a steep but gratifying (hopefully) learning curve to be experienced!

Sometimes one gets an incomplete swap over between avatar looksets, and I've found that one easy and rather quick way of removing the "offending" items is to use the search function in the Inventory Window.

Open Inventory
Type "WORN" (without the quotes) in the search window at the top

Now, let SL's asset server chug through your inventory (as you get more stuff in SL this will take longer and longer, trust me! ;-D)

What will happen is you'll see everything you have on and attached highlighted, their folders open (also anything that happens to contain w. o. r. n. embedded in it's name).

So now, use the scroll bar to move to say the folder for the Chipmunk avatar, Right-Click on the folder for the Chipmunk, and select (is it detach items or remove? it's the bottom or next to bottom option)

Whatever was in that folder will now be removed from your avatar, clothing, gadgets, body parts, whathave you.

If stuff seems to remain attached after this, try right-clicking on your avatar, selecting Appearance mode, and when the Edit Appearance interface comes up, just close it without doing anything. This tends to "push" the update of your appearance to your computer and those around you.

Hope this helps!

Oh, take a look in your Inventory for a category called Library. You'll find other basic avatar forms to use as jumping off points for your own personalized look. Non-human avatar shapes (the ones with attached prim to make the form) tend to necessitate odd looking body and head shapes, esp. what I call the "pea-head". Cracks me up everytime!

Enjoy your SL, and welcome!
