Ok, I've been playing SL for a while now so this isn't a newbie question persay, but I wanted to ask because it just baffles me... What is the purpose of having a computer inside SL? I see computer stores all over and what not and to me it really seems pointless. I read one where you can check your email through it... uh.. but I can check my email through my computer that plays the game, heh. I'm not talking about networked vendors or any of that, I'm talking about personal computers and the like in SL. Any insight into this is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Remember... It is your Second Life. And yes, some computers has use (as e-mail).... But in my house stands a laptop on a desk You know... it does nothing, apart from looking good. And that makes it worthwhile to have . Morwen.

I have a 15T57G582SL Deluxe with LSL prediction crashing. AKA nothing special but a fancy nae and a visual look to make my house controls look part of the home as opposed to some nasty cube I just rezzed and laid around. It's all about looks in SL. ^_^ I have seriously though seen Movie and radio stream controllers dressed up as laptops and have the videos played via the "screen" while it also was used to be the control center. Also I saw someone make a mainframe out of thier network servers for thier shop and other toys.

Dearly Darlings,
No computer in my home but I do have a fountain pen. I write with one Real Life and I wanted one here too...it's part of what makes "Me" Me.
Ever Yours,

Now I like the idea of streaming video and audio through a laptop prim, that's a good use of the object, and I know there are a bunch of dummy boxes out there that just looked good and that was it. I was just curious if there was any real practical use to having them in game. Clearly like most of what's in SL, there isn't. lol. Thanks everyone. E

I'm thinking of getting a laptop in SL, so my avatar can type on it when he's chatting instead of typing on air. Any recommendations?

A computer in SL could:
be a home security system
record visitors
send emails to you when you are offline of the visitors that entered your land
(once webviewing in SL arrives) can hold a group meeting and show everyone around a webpage
keep tabs of customer habits or your habits
play video
turn on/off all the lights in your house
control a secret door
-----
sure a computer in SL is basically for looks, but there are endless uses once you put scripts inside it.
