Okay, so the damned Report Abuse dialog REQUIRES you to report the name of the person upon whom you are filing a report.

But at times like this, the Find dialog flat-out doesn't work.

Yet, it also gives you the ability to identify an object as the source of the problem, which might in some cases obviate the need to use the find dialog....

But you still have to do find.

Wouldn't it make sense to have the Report Abuse dialog simply accept a plain-text name instead of requiring the use of a find dialog, or not require a user name if the Object Picker is used?

Just use your own name. The one time I used the abuse report dialog it wasn't about a specific person. So I used my own name (and noted in my summary that *I* wasn't the abuser, no one was.)

That dialog blows, for the very reason you point out. (well and it's text limit is so small, how can one explain any details). :p

If you do manage to send an abuse report you can reply to the email that has the report number on it to add details. Not perfect, but all we have.

Last night while sitting on a friend's plot, I noticed suddenly a barrage of physical clown hats playing whistley sounds. This came at a serious point in the conversation, so I was mad. I was able to catch one, and attempted to fill out an abuse report. Oh no, I have to have an avatar name? But, gee. There isn't any (waiting) listed in Find.. About five minutes later, I was still (waiting). I gave up, and then not much later, the grid crashed again.

If that's how the Lindens want to roll, that's neat and all. But if they actually want us to abuse-report physical (and presumably self-replicating) object attacks, maybe they ought to make that field optional.

Can't you just target an object specificaly?

This is similar to my experience. I was not aware that the objects I had on my property were a part of the grid wide attack so I wasted about five minutes of Live Help's valuable time asking them about why I couldn't find the guy in the find to make an abuse report.

I understand now that once they ban an avatar they no longer show up in the find, and I appreciate the workaround of using one's own name (great idea that), but the failure here is communication.

I was off and online all night and I received many blue dialogue box messages from various Lindens about the grid attack but no information as to what that was exactly, or what I should be looking for or expect other than "self-replicating objects."

If even one of those messages simply said "if you find objects made by <name>" or "they are noise making party hats" and to merely delete them and don't bother Live Help, then I would have known not to.

How am I supposed to know when I log on hours after the last "we have it under control" message and hear fart sounds from invisible objects that this is in fact the "grid attack?" I thought it was just the spanish newbie hangout in the next sim leaving crap on my property again.
