So I'm so new, I've not left orientation island yet. Somehow I've managed to delete the guide thing that helps you complete the first basic tasks. Anyone able to tell me how to get it back on?

If I remember correctly there are small signs near the entrance to the four separate areas. The signs should allow you to click them to 're-try' the tasks.

You could try checking in your inventory trash can. Also, there may be a copy of it in your inventory under "Notecards" treat your inventory like folders and subfolders on your regular computer. A quick tip before you "aquire" too many things (hehe): Create main folders and subfolders and you'll stay organized. (clothes main folder with shirts, shoes, dresses subfolders) and do that as soon as you get things...don't put it off or it will get messy and overwhelming. ![]() |

Doesn't seem to be in my inventory. It's the help guide that appears as soon as you log in for the first time.

I guess you have to complete these "tasks" on the guide before you can enter the real world, so I can't even do that unfortunatly. Is there anyway you can restart?

Is there anyway you can restart? you don't have to complete all tasks to enter real world. just hit 'home' on the map and that'll take you to the nearest welcome area. |

I did exactly the same as you when I started in SL 5 weeks ago. I got to the main Island from the centre are i think, check there for something called Help Island or check your inventory, maybe within the Landmarks folder. Your find it easy enough to learn all the skills in-world as you go along. I'm sure your soon find someone willing to show you around and teach you the basics. You could always IM me and I'll help you out, show you a few good places to get started and places to go where your soon meet nice people to talk too. |

Hi, I just tried the notecards but it doesn't seem to be there. Are there any people there with a helper tag on them to help you? usually there are mentors or helpers there to assist newcomers. |

Yes, you don't need to finish the training before entering the main grid.
Welcome to SL and enjoy! ![]() _____________________

I think if I had had to go through the tutorial I'd not have played at all tbh ... kudos to people for having the patience. I couldn't be bothered with the old style tutorial ... lol ... my first port of call was (accidentally) Strokers in Amsterdam.
No I wasn't looking for Strokers, I was looking for Amsterdam! I'd just come back from there. Frankly it's fun to just dive in, you can always ask people ... might get a few rude people but there you go it's just like life. Might make your first friends too but talk to people and ASK before offering friendship or it's a bit scary for the person you are talking to ![]() _____________________

The on-screen tutorial isn't a notecard; it's a hud you wear. When I created an alt, I had the hardest time getting the "walking" section to register completed and for the tutorial to disappear. So instead I found it in my "worn" items and detached it. Viola!
So if you want it back, it might be in your trash...just not a notecard. |

There's a few help guides located at www.lewisnerd.com which may help you for some aspects of Second Life.

ROFLMAO LL needs a help guide for their help guide =^.^=
Someone get the people writing the help guides the book "Overly Complex Guide to the Insanely Common Sense Obvious". *giggles* Everything LL gives you is located in the LIBRARY folder of your inventory. What exactly this item is called, I have no idea. No such animal when I joined lol. ~Jessy _____________________

this is craziness. the new user experience should be BULLETPROOF. if there's a way for something to go wrong here, like someone to right-click and detatch the hud, or for it to show up in odd places (i haven't had hud objects attached to my butt yet, but i wouldnt' be surprised), then it will go wrong, and new users shouldn't be expected to fix it or hunt through inventory when they're in the middle of being taught where the inventory window is.
i hope you make it through and into the world, jaci. you seem patient and reasonable, we could use more of that! _____________________

I just took a look at the current sign up page. There's a relatively new option to join a community (for orientations created by user groups) before even picking a name. I suspect that few, if any of the contributors here have even seen that, since they signed up before it existed. So the obvious question to ask is did you join a community, and if so, which one? |

Thanks for all the advice guys. I finaly figured out what to do through an online guide. I had no idea abot how to do anything when I joined yesterday. It's pretty confusing when you have never used anything like this before. I'm sure I'll pick up things quickly!

I totally agree with that. A friend of mine in RL joined last week and he too deleted this HUD so he was unable to easily get to main land. He decided to start another account and try it again. For a second time he managed to delete the guide HUD (it appears it by far fool proof lol) but this time he worked out how to get to the main land. As this happened when I joined up as well it does make you wonder how many newbies never make it to main land because they get stuck on noob island ![]() |

You can always teleport out and mosey over to Orientation Island Public...last time I peeked in, it looked like they were still using the old OI set up, which didn't require a HUD.
