I posted this in LA, but I thought maybe somebody who understands the SL economy could shed some light on these topics for me.

From: someone
https://secondlife.com/currency/economy.php

This page lists a $$ amount for stipend sinks...how are stipends ever sinks?

Also how do you justify infusing Twenty million (september)$L into the economy when you are cutting back on stipends or even $11 million L$ (october so far)?

The sources majorly outweigh the sinks and LL selling $L is making the problem worse. Besides every $US you make off selling $L is taking US$ away from players trying to sell their $L.

How can you justify these actions? (please do not refer me to blog entries, I've read them all and still don't understand your reasoning)

I really just don't understand how them selling $L can HELP sustain the value of the L$. It just seems like such a bad decision for both consumer and creator alike.

Does anyone understand why LL sells $L and cuts stipends and why that is good for the economy?

My guess is that there are so many new people signing up for SL (many of which want to by L$) that they have to make sure there is more and more L$ being created all the time... in order to keep up with demand.

So that's why they're selling L$ now. To prevent the L$ becoming more scarce (and thus, more valuable) due to the demand from all those new accounts.

As for stipends, I think the reason for that is that anyone can buy L$ on the LindeX, so giving people stipends isn't really a "premium" benifit - you can get more L$ for your USD on the LindeX. They want to eliminate stipends entirely and replace them with other, more real and useful benifits that they can give to premium account holders.

I don't and don't want to buy $L. I currently pay $10 a month and get $2000 L. If they do away with stipends I'll still be paying $10 a month but not getting any $L for that $US. I'll have to pay more $US to get the same $L I was getting previously. So yes it is a premium benefit. Not a big one but it is one. Still doesn't make sense to me unless they are doing away with or lowering the cost of premium memberships.
