heyas;

i have some morphing mandalas (kaleidescope-like objects) that are made up of two prims. a twisted cube, and a torus frame. i put four of them out on my land, up for sale.

then this happens:
i come back some time later, and the torus frames are missing from the mandalas.
if i right click and edit the mandalas... well, i can't. they highlight in gold while i click, then after i hit edit, they deselect and behave as if they aren't really there.
if i right click and try to return them, or delete them, they just don't go away.
if i try to marquee select them in build mode, they highlight, but deselect as soon as i let go of the mouse.

the first time this happened, i moved all my prims off my land to the next parcel, then hit return items to owner on the land controls. THAT put them back in my inventory. i can't really do that right now, since i have stuff built up, and put in place.

what the heck causes this? and how can i prevent it???

the objects are not physical. (hm, they're not phantom either, they probably should be.)
they have a texture animation script, and a for loop that changes the prim parameters over time. (the hollow size, and shape.)

---UPDATE---

i have the same objects placed out on land in a mall area. these objects do not dissolve, disintegrate, or lose parts. what the heck??

this is really driving me nuts!

i want to sell these things. how can i confidently sell them to someone to have them place them in their home or whatever, when the things might up and disintegrate someday? (and why does this only happen to me?)

two of the there-but-missing objects were auto returned from me, from somewhere else in my sim and somewhere in the next sim over. where they were never placed!

yesterday i checked up on them in my shop again. all the squares and frames were there, but two of them had become unlinked. so.... i selected the frame, then the square, and hit link. and what happened? 'cannot link objects, they are too far apart.'
well apparently their centers appear to be at exactly the same place, but the server thinks my frame migrated off to the next sim again?

gah!

Hi Bloodsong :)
I read on Monday I think about a scripted object that misbehaved when it was moved. The answer I gather was to reset the script after positioning the object to replot the relative positions.

[Sorry if this pulls us into Scripting Tips territory.] I'd be suspicious of that oft-repeated llSetPrimitiveParams() call, just based on mysterious reports in the jira, and the fact that PRIM_TYPE parameters like hollow and PRIM_HOLE_<shape> have some peculiar side-effects (like unseating an avatar from the prim). If there's some convenient place in the script to establish a set position for the prims, I might try adding PRIM_POSITION to the rules, to force it back where it belongs. Or perhaps to remind it that it *is* where it belongs.

Why this should happen only on the owner's land (or, anyway, not at a mall) is, uh, mysterious.

hmm....

i'll attempt to find that on the jira, thanks!

its only setting the prim shape, the hole shape and size. it doesn't rotate in any manner, nor move. heh, supposedly.

by the way, i checked on the ones at the mall... some of them fell apart, too. seemed to take longer. ::sigh::

thanks for the hints, guys!

I've been noticing the toruses act strangely around sculpties. Are any of these near sculpted objects? Also, if I edit a sculpty and then go back to editing a torus, it can go strange as well. It rights itself sort of after awhile but maybe it's worse if there are a lot of sculpted objects around.

hmm... no, they're cubes. twisted cubes.

dont have any sculpties on my land. (cant speak for the neighbors, though).

what do you suppose the odds are of me finding a tech linden to take one of these and dissect it to figure out what is going on?

try reversing the direction of the twist, that can help sometimes. The physics engine can be touchy about tortured prims. Also try linking another prim to them that encompasses them.
