Maybe a stupid question; but, why are the pieces of L$-land in the auction sold for much more than the pieces of land of similar size sold in-world?

most of the small parcels at auction are going for absurd amounts which makes no sense because its auctions but this issue had been discussed ad nauseum so the answer is no you wont get any deal on sl auctions..

It's just an extension of "Ebay Fever".
I've sold things on Ebay, second hand unboxed, that have gone for 50% more than a person could walk into a shop and buy brand new boxed exact same item.
People get too caught up with "must get it" without thinking whether it's possible to buy it cheaper in a store.

That is just the nature of auctions, unfortunately. Why else do you think that land prices are so high? Latecomers bid beyond conventionally reasonable limits, and when they try to resell, the price is inflated. Gotta have it, gotta have it...

Unless of course they just really want and need the piece of land they are bidding on. Then what choice do you have but to bid higher.
