Currently, I've been using a cheap set of Headphones & Mic from Playstation I had laying around on Yahoo as well as Skype. I have also used them for sl once or twice but being the cheap set they are the sound isn't all that.

So, I want to buy a good set which I can use in all 3 places, sl, Yahoo and Skype. Anyone know of a good set I can get at Staples, Radio Shack or anywhere else?

I was checking out the sets they sell in sl but I'm not sure if they would work on the other 2 systems and I'm thinking the prices on these sl sets are a lot more expensive then if I got them out around my way.

I'll appreaciate any info on this natter

Thank You

Those are the ones I use. With the exception of the swivel on the mic wearing out too quickly, it's a fairly good value for the life of the headset. I found out with my first set that the swivel wears out within a year, so I try not to move the mic once it's in place (I.E. I remove headset with mic in place). My current set works with Skype, SL, Vent, Teamspeak and all the games I play, however I'm not sure about Yahoo as I've never used the Yahoo voice feature.

I've been using a USB set from Logitech I picked up at Best Buy for $50. No problems to use out of the box. No installations.

I'd have thought that any mic would work with any prog. I've used a few, and never encountered any problems with a mic workin with one prog, but not another. they kind of work or not at all. Same goes for earphones.

Quality would be about the only issue really.

I picked up a set Logitech total $54.

Now, if only voice chat in sl really worked the way it should, I'd be set. As it stands now many people can't get their's to function properly, me included. Can't drown out the background noises although I've adjusted the sliders.

This system still needs a lot of work, al ot of work in order to have a system that actually makes it worthwhile to use.

Get the Skype head set at Wallmart, 14.95 or 19.95. You will be shocked at the quality.

USB headsets

Does anyone know what advantage if any the USB headsets have over the old analogue ones. As I understand it USB ones have a separate sound card. So does this mean they might reduce lag?

Does it just mean they are better for people with poor sound cards like some laptop users?

Or does it mean they produce better sound both going in the microphone and out to the ears for everyone regardless of how good your soundcard already is?

I'm wondering about this too.

Another thing is that how many users do you guys think are actually participating in voice in SL? I know with the recent summit I went to they used voice, but the audience couldn't partake in the talk. So if I had a headset, I wouldn't have used it there anyway.

As far as I know, most of my friends aren't utilizing voice so much yet. I think I might wait until it is the popular way to go before I invest into a headset. Not that I'm broke and can't get one! LOL I just can't stand buying something I won't use right away.

Any thoughts on how many in SL are utilizing voice? My guess would be more than less half of SL society. But I could be wrong!

I have not found many people who use it. I never will. It will interfere with music I like to listen to while on SL. My SL daughter uses it and just calls me a fossil for no. But No, I like the silent speak - it is far MORE intimate. Voice acts as a latex condom in a sense.

An Additional Idea

Dearly Darlings,

I've found most headsets to be a little fragile (I'm on set # 4). This last go-round from Best Buy I got a replacement warrentee. I'm glad I did! The head piece had snapped in half. I got a new one for free and bought a new replacement warrentee for it too! I think even Walmart has services like this too. Just a little FYI. Now if I can only figure out how to use voice!

Ever Yours,

Mrs. Showdog Tiger

ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

/me ready to puke from laughing so hard!!

There is an intimacy with written words for sure. I'm not that old and not that young, and I steel find words more interesting. If you think about it; it takes just a little more time to put your thoughts down instead of having a case of diarrhea mouth. The world is fast paced enough (especially in sl...moves like what...10 times faster), so to me the importance of taking it easy and being laid back is high up there.
