After a week of no new mainland sim offerings, they finally dumped some new sims to auction today. 10 sims in all. http://secondlife.com/auctions/Note that they waited for the lowest priced land to hit L$10.0 a meter before they released new sims. I have long suspected that L$10 is LL's target base price for the mainland land sales page. Once land prices creeps above L$10 a meter, they start dumping again. When it goes down to L$9.5 a meter or thereabouts, they hold back on new offerings. Just a theory...

I reckon they should sell sims till people/barons stop buying it, we can never have too much land can we, more sims than residents will be good ?

or is this a new blog..?. Yeah, you got me. A lot of threads are started here without true questions, but are more issue-related or more informational in nature. If you don't care about the subject then don't read it or post here. Or is moderating your new job?

If you don't care about the subject then don't read it or post here. Or is moderating your new job? Here is the question: Raymond, you have been generously tracking auctions and land info for residents but haven't heard anything new from you in a while and I'm asking the question: Raymond, what's new? I am really impressed by your $L10 per m theory and it seems to be holding true. Another question: Raymond or anyone, is it still from Nautilaus or is there indication of more island like mainland. Another question: How expensive is land to make? There must be a point where the infrastructure balks at the number of servers? Another question: Is there a name for the 3rd Continent? Another question: Is it just me or is the ol 2nd Continent, the farthest south one kinda the trailer park of SL?

LoL in a way it is... that continent seems to have had a TON of Linden first land sims, so population is thick and lots are smaller in a lot of sims there. My store is there, and the general neighborhood theme is.. umm... chaos lol.

I thought you were in Nautilaus? That's high class beach property.. Nautilus is the vacation home. Admittedly my Southern Continent home region is atypically nice, with both grassland and a steep hillside plunging down into a lake. And stable too... there hasn't been any land for sale there for months. No adcuts, no spinning signs, and no camping except for a little-used mall that doesn't pay enough to actually attract campers anymore. Seriously, I can't believe how fortunate I was in choosing my home when I first started! But true, much of the continent is a pit. That's pretty true for the interior of the other continents too, though... there's just a lot more interior in the South. BTW Ray, I like that you post things like this. Although not technically a question, it is very informative and certainly within the intended spirit of Resident Answers. Maybe stick "What do you think?" at the end just to keep the sticklers happy.

Another question: Is it just me or is the ol 2nd Continent, the farthest south one kinda the trailer park of SL? Dnali, thanks. I don't have any further answers for you because LL does not disclose much. I did not check out the new sims to auction, so I'm not sure if they are on Nautilus or not. A person who seems to be an expert on the new continent is Aminom Marvin, so maybe he will chime in here. From what I understand, they can keep adding servers indefinitely and the infrastructure will still stand (albeit, not well when there are 50k online, but I 'm sure they are working on it). The expense is covered by the auction fees and land use fees are the gift that keeps on giving. What landlord does not want as many properties as he can get his hands on to rent out? <-Notice that I am asking a question here.

The sims up for auction jsut closed at prices that should not affect the base price of land either way. And the fact that there are no new sims in the queue means prices should continue to inch slowly higher in the days to come. Yeah they need to keep dumping till they get closer to the $1700 for an island. Land will be worth money when tier becomes realistic. Would you pay 20% of the value of your land monthly to the local council for rates?

No they provide refuse collection, maintain the local roads and footpaths, public parks and sports facilities, public library, care homes and support facilities for elderly and disabled - oh and the public lavatories.

The last 10 sim drop did nothing to affect prices. They dropped 11 more this morning. I suspect these also will go in the high 2K range and the base price of mainland will remain at L$10 a meter, which is where LL wants it to be. In fact they are already bid up past 2K and some may break the 3K barrier by the time they close. http://secondlife.com/auctions/

(Curious because it would have to be well over base price to make a profit.)

(Curious because it would have to be well over base price to make a profit.) It's looks like a mix of new mini-barons and older ones. Have not studied what is being dropped to market as far as these new sims, but there is nothing under L$10 per meter. See how much Orellian plots are going for. They were bought by a known reseller so they should be hitting the market soon. To get the names of the sim buyers for recently closed auctions, go here: http://secondlife.com/auctions/closed.php
