I think the "New Internet" has died a premature death due to Linden Lab's recent announcements regarding identity verification and a ban on anything that is objectionable to anyone. Maybe I am being weird but since when did Internet v1 require this garbage and how can the creators of v2 hope to succeed when they want to moderate every action of every user?

Since this is a question forum that is my official question. I may consult with Al Gore on this. :)

It could turn around and improve if there were people out there interested more then selling freebies, over pricing land and other distracting pursuits.

That will NEVER happen. Humans, by nature, are greedy and do whatever is in their own best interest. This has been proven time and time again...

The current internet is gradually turning away from pornographic material too, so maybe SL will be able to catch the wave of the future.

But, on the other hand, things like this still ring true... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtiGd58J0bY (warning: contains some naughty words.)

Internet 'freedom' and 'anarchy' were only ever going to be a temporary phase lasting a few years. Most internet sites set down rules of behaviour and can expel people who flout them.

In the future a more regulated internet is inevitable and I think LL is right to impose its own rules (as distinct from national laws) before someone else does it for them!
