Object and texture copy back up?

If I created like several vaults in different land I own with all the content, textures I made and store them in content tabs would this be like a way to back up items in world?
Would this work to prevent inventory loss?
Any other suggestions?

This works for Copy items only. (Obviously, you can't make a copy of a NoCopy. This information was provided by the Educated a Newbie Foundation and is not intended for the those who already knew this)

This practice is actually ecouraged by LL. To take items from your inventory and "box" them in a single prim for storage and backup. LL would prefer a majority of your inventory be done this was, even the NoCopy, as it is less of a stress on the Asset Server. However, setting NoCopy items inworld is a gamble to me as much as having them in your Inventory. Your call there on where you want to take your chances.

Most people don't do this for one simple reason; You can not store folders in prims.

This means you either have to have tons of boxes in boxes to organise (and take hours doing so), or have one HUGE list in a single prim. Either way is unacceptable to me.

Many suggestions have been made to LL. Seemingly falling of deaf ears as they walk away from the "official forums" more and more and close more and more communication lines.

The only way to prevent Inventory loss of NoCopy items will be for LL to devise a backup system themselves. Copy backups are possible, but, as mentioned, a pain to do under the current system. While it would be fairly easy to keep up with, by the time a person owns land (or understands how Inventory systems in SL work) they have thousands of items in thier inventory. No one wants to spend the time to catch up.

What else can you do? Pray that LL grows something resembling management, and that they fix the current bugs and then begin listening to thier customers.

Hey Jessy how many items should I put in my virtual prim cabinets or dressers so to speak?
I have seen someone charging 100L to do this but I didn't know it would actually work.
I have testing this with a small portable book but it has glitches.
Can I put all my outfits for example in prim from specific month or year?? Is there a limit on how many items within that prim I can put in it? IE will the server glitches crawl in my box few months from now making items unusable?
I just was thinking about making a vitual dresser, file cabinets or specific item storage prim i.e sock drawer, textures in red, etc?
Thanks I am trying to figure out better way since I lost literally tons of stuff except the clothes I made, freebies and items I had bought from others in the last three months.
I just don't want to lose content I created.
I hadn't even thought about the items I bought from others which I do have but I don't own whole lot of items that I bought for over 200 l or more.
As far as folder what about prims within prims as folder purposes?
Also I was using for when I am on the virtual road exploring a storage attachment but I ran into so me issues and item disappeared too.
I noticed sometimes there was this glitch where I lose my virtual address, reminder book and spare prim avatar in the personal book attachment.
Is there anyway to have a virtual storage attachment that can be bit more stable?
Do I need special script or is it just impossible to create?

I've never really understood this advice... it strikes me like a case of "putting all your prims in one basket".

I mean... if I have 1,000 items in my inventory, and one or two of them go missing, get corrupted, or otherwise fall foul of the inventory gremlins... yeah, that's sucks... but...

If I put those 1,000 items into a _single_ container object.... and then that container object goes missing, gets corrupted, or whatever.... Zap! - you've lost all 1,000 items in one swoop!

i think the point of putting your items in a prim is to NOT take the "box of 1000" items back into your inventory. i think the point is leaving the item rezzed in world.. or something...

i gues maybe because items rezzed in world have less issues with disappearing than inventory items?

For the items I sell, I keep a copy in 2 seperate folders in my inventory (one having all stages of the items creation and one having my completed items)

I also have them in the contents tab of a box on my land as this is a very good backup.

I also store backups of expensive copyable items I have bought like houses and dragon avatars in boxes on my land
Its amazing how many items you can fit in one box. Each box is just one prim.

Remember to lock the boxes so you dont acidently pick them up or delete them.

I had friend today explain to me the difference between allocation server where the inventory is and the land based server.
If I am wearing my address book or something goes awry with inventory its same because all inventory and attachments are a part of the allocation server which is inventory.
Now if you have several back ups on different sims that land base entirely different server so if something goes awry with allocation server aka inventory things vanish temporary or aren't able to rez and be found, yet land base is totally different server and seperate from inventory and will be protected or most likely be protected depending on if I got another prim or several prim back ups.
He said the limit is 45 objects, prims, textures within the content tab.
Now I am not sure being new how much of this is corect or not.
I was setting up my vender prims earlier and with the prims within prims that also had folders, and lose textures I got total of 61 items.
Yet while I was placing indivual textures within prims that were like 10 or 5 items each within content I go this strange blue pop up message saying it couldn't do whatever task it flashed so fast I couldn't figure out the exact message other then it said it couldn't do that task.
Not sure what I did wrong or if I will be having problems with items at near future date if anyone tries to buy those 60 or so textures.

Thinc has some really nice inventory storage boxes, and so does pixle trix , and at pixel trix most are in the form of furniture and you can keep your inventory in it, i use both , and they stay rezed on my land, my actual inventory count on my avie is like 400 and i rarely lag , i statred using these after loosing alot of inventory from the bugs , since using these i have not lost any inventory, and i use a texture organizer and it stays rezed in world as well hope this helps just a little bit, i know id be totaly lost with out these 3 products

Firstly, yes there are "organizers" out there from various makers. I tend to use my own system of folders and sub-folders though. The one time I did use an auto-organizer, I spent days setting things right again *chuckles* More likely that's just me and my wierd twisted mind at work.

As for the actual prims and the contents: I've never hit a limit and I have put hundreds of items into a single prim. This was several updates ago and LL changes things like that on a daily basis (usually without telling us), so all I can tell you there is to try.

If you want to see a great example of prim storage in-world, go to YadNi's Junkyard. He has all his freebies for newbies organized by month/year/type in various prims throughout his land.

Anyone noticed how more frequently the creators names missing/dissapear from objects these days? Or despite actually making something, more and more frequently the 'You do not have permissions to look/mod or use this object/script or notecard'?

Open your inventory and so often folders will not open, contents will not be shown for longer and longer periods, if at all. Try wearing something, or rezzing something and the sign 'attempt to rez this object has failed' and it dissapears from your inventory sometimes never to be seen again? I'm on my 4th set of my favourite dancing balls, due to server crashes, whilst dancing in a club when the sim crashes and the database rolls back for upto an hour. Makes you wonder if I would want to risk piling a lot of things into a prim and rezzing it onto my land, then cross my fingers for at least an hour that the sim doesn't crash.

Flaky... is the word that springs to mind whenever I try to do anything from my inventory these days.
