I have a dialog on my screen asking me to vote on something. There seems to be no way to dismiss it without either voting are "agreeing" to vote later. Is there a way to opt out of voting or to otherwise dismiss the dialog?

Are you a member of a group? That's the only time I've ever had a voting thing pop up for me...

Click vote later and never vote on the proposition.

Lately people have been using this to get out group messages because there was a problem with group messaging. If you click "vote later" you won't have to. :)

Also, that blue menu will disappear if you relog without clicking it.

I've had that happen and never got it back.

What I do is to go ahead and click to vote, then abstain (or vote yes/no). Takes care of it forever.

I got hit with this last night and 'voting later' simply brings it up again and again.

Peggy has the right idea with 'abstain'.

Why not just vote? As a member of a group, don't you feel any kind of moral duty to vote on group issues? If not, then leave the group. It's really that simple. Abstaining is a valid response though.

yes, you're right Conan, if I cared I'd vote. So many of my groups use the IM channel for idle chat I'm in the process of culling them anyway but with Group Notices snafu according to a thread post, they were merely engineering a vote as an alternative.

My point and response to OP was that 'Vote later' was no point whatsover.. unless you were simply undecided lol

Oh, I understood what you were saying. Really I was aiming at the OP and asking why he doesn't just cast a vote. His original post said he got a pop-up asking him "to vote on something" - since he doesn't know what he's being asked to vote on, he clear hasn't read the message. My point is that if he is a member of a group, then he should at the very least read the messages being sent out. If the group is sending excessive numbers messages then the solution is to leave, since he clearly doesn't want to play an active role in the group he has joined. A lot of groups have a problem with members joining and then never playing any kind of role in the group ever again.

LOL sometimes difficult here to work out who's talking to who :)
I've halved my groups within the last week and even my 'short list' so rarely seem to put on events that are convenient times for my time zone.
Time Zones! yeuch!

I know the feeling. Personally, I'm down to being a member of only three groups now, as the a lot of groups I joined were basically spam advertising channels. That's pretty much what club VIP groups are when you get right down to it.

Couldn't agree more - I've reduced to a couple as well.

1. I /did/ know what I was being asked to vote on.

2. I /did/ read the message

3. Kindly ask /me/ before making judgments about my knowledge, desires, personality, morals, etc.

4. The only option was to "VOTE" or "VOTE LATER," which I read as "VOTE YES NOW" or "VOTE YES LATER," which options I did not want to be limited to. Does this display lack of knowledge on my part about the voting process? Yes. Does my question mean I'm a stupid a**? No. I've designed a good many communications front-ends in my years and this dialog was right up there with asking a Yes/No question and offering dialog buttons of "OK" and "Cancel."

5. Thank You For Your Support. Sheesh!

When you vote you can vote for or against. Voting doesn't mean "yes."

I've been in a few groups where the members were given the option to make notices that people can vote on. Needless to say the voting notices were of of the unbelievably stupid variety and being able to not vote on these and just dismiss them would be nice to have.
