Okay, we've all seen them! Now, how do you make one?

Someone showed me the trick years ago, so of course I forgot and suddenly I have a need for this effect. Anyone know how to make the prim inverteed to show the outline of your avatar? I'm not looking to make myself invisibly, just one solid color by using a prim to do so.

Its been a while since I figured that trick out, but IIRC, you take a sphere, hollow it to 95 percent, make the inside of the sphere whatever funky color/pattern you want, then make the outside black and 1 percent transparent.

I could be wrong, it's been a while, but that sounds about right.

You also have to flip the sphere inside out using the twist paramters.

However, every time I've seen someone use one these days it no longer works right because of a "fix" made to the alpha sorting recently...

The cartoon chading effect it causes still works, but the weird solid but you see what's inside in outline effect is gone.

It used to be that if you had a semi-transparent texture on the inside and outside of a hollow sphere, the inside surface would show on top of the outside. Dance spheres took advantage of this. The part of the interior that the avatar blocked would instead show the outside texture. This effect was due to an alpha sort bug on hollow spheres that has since been fixed. Dance spheres that took advantage of this bug no longer work.

I've seen new versions, however. I'm guessing from the direction of the glow lines when you right-click them that they use a sphere inside an inside-out sculpty. I don't know what configuration of transparency they use. I've been meaning to try once I get my hands on an inside-out spherical sculpty.
